2012: Didn’t Compete – New Team
This will be the first season for the newly formed Roy Royals. They will be lead by Head Coach Kelli Taylor. Coach Taylor will look to her experienced players to lead her young team on the field.
“Those players are Madison Geilmann, McKenzie Graves, Madisyn Stevens and Brittany Talbot. All four of these athletes have shown great leadership skills and strengthen our attack, midfield and defense. They are team players and know how to work the field. Expect great things from these players this season,” said Coach Taylor.
Although her team is young, Coach Taylor believes that her team is dedicated and will rise to the challenge.
“Even though our team is young, they have heart and are unified. These ladies are dedicated and are giving it their all. It’s amazing to see them progress after each practice,” Coach Taylor mentioned.
Taylor is excited to get on the field and see her team’s hard work payoff.
Coach Taylor said, “Seeing all the hard work of building up a first year program put into action on the field. There are so many people who have contributed to this team and I’m excited to see it finally come to fruition. Viewmont comes into the 2013 season after a 13-2 season and a close loss in the championship game to Timpanogos. Viewmont lost 3 seniors to graduation. One of which was First Team All-State Defender Mallory Tittle.
Viewmont hopes to repeat their 2012 success with the help of returning starters, “Addie Accord [Second Team All-State Attacker] , Maddie Medeiros and Brittany Harris [First Team All-State Midfielder]. They are all very field smart and are quick players. They have excellent ball control and are hard workers,” mentioned Head Coach Kendra Francis.
Coach Francis also believes that newly placed defender Isabelle Powell will help contribute.
“She is quiet and last year we had her in the wrong spot. I found out she is an outstanding defender and we look for her to have a huge season this year.”
Viewmont has a rough schedule having to play last years D-II champion Timpanogos, D-I champion Bingham and D-I Olympus.
“We have a bunch of returning starters on the defensive end this year. We also found out Isabelle is an outstanding defender and we have a few defenders that played in the U-15 National Tournament last year. We are very good and very deep on the defensive end,” said Francis.
Francis hopes her teams depth on the defensive end will help Viewmont through their daunting schedule.
Francis stated, “I have an outstanding group of girls. They are great on and off the field and are all willing to work hard. We are miles ahead of where we were last year and we look forward to having a successful 2013 campaign.”
Viewmont will begin play on March 4 against Lehi.
