As always, let’s start the MCLA notebook by taking a look at the action from last week.
BYU Cougars BYU hosted Montana on Friday and send the Grizzlies packing with a 23-3 win. Mike Fabrizio led the Cougars with 4 goals and 4 assists. Salt Lake City native Eric Larson (Judge) led the Grizzlies with 2 goals. Utah Utes Utah also hosted the Grizzlies, but this time the visitors had the upper hand, sending Utah home with a 12-8 loss. Sam Schwab had 3 goals for the Utes. Check out the photo gallery from the game here.
Utah State Aggies
The Aggies had a great weekend when they hosted conference foes Montana State and Fort Lewis. Utah State beat the Bobcats 11-6 with Justin Jackson scoring 4 goals. On Saturday, the Aggies beat the Skyhawks 12-10. Freshman Midfielder Sam Taylor had 3 goals an 3 assists for the Aggies.
Utah Valley Wolverines
UVU began their season on the road when they headed south to Las Vegas. On Friday, the Rebels proved to be too much to handle as they sent the home fans home with smiles, beating the Wolverines 15-7. Six Wolverines found the back of the net in a balanced scoring effort. On Saturday, UVU played Claremont and recorded their first win of the season, beating the Cougars 9-6. Fred Davis had 1 goal and 3 assists in the win.
Utah Valley Wolverines
The Wolverines will head to Colorado to face three 2014 MCLA tournament teams. On Friday, they will play the No. 1 ranked Colorado Buffaloes who are the defending National Champions. The Buffaloes have a few Utah natives on their roster: Riley Rose (Juan Diego), Aaron Isacsson (Judge), Chris Boland (Park City) and Colton Kissell (Park City). On Saturday, UVU will head North to Fort Collins, Colorado to take on the No. 4 ranked Colorado State Rams. The Rams feature one Utah native, Junior caption Brian Allen (Judge). UVU will take a break on Sunday before playing No. 7 Boston College on Monday. The Wolverines have never played any of the schools. Nothing is impossible in the MCLA, but an epic performance will be needed for the green and gold to get a win this weekend.
The Griffins will kick off their 2015 season on the road in Boise, Idaho. On Saturday, the Griffins will face the Oregon Ducks who have two Utahns, Justin Anthony (Waterford) and Lucas Pyper (Waterford). On Sunday, Westminster will then take on the home team, the Boise State Broncos. The Broncos have a new look and are 2-1 on the season with the lone loss coming last weekend to Simon Fraser in overtime. Tannen Campbell (Sky View) plays for the Broncos and will look forward to playing against former teammate Tanner Duryea. Read the Press Release here.
