4th Annual Wasatch Chill Lax Tournament Slated for March 21-22

chill-lax-logoThe 4th Annual Wasatch Chill Lax Tournament will be played on March 21-22, 2014 at the Art Dye Park in American Fork. The tournament is reserved specifically for freshman and sophomore teams.
“We wanted to give our younger players a venue to develop and have a tournament experience early in the season,” said Jason Matheny. “Many programs put so much emphases on the varsity kids the the younger players get over looked.  We wanted to keep the cost down (only $400 a team) to make it affordable for all teams to participate.  It is expensive to run a tournament for referees and field space but we are fortunate that we have great AFHS booster and players to volunteer their time to help make this tournament successful.”
The tournament is a great way for younger players to get familiar with their teammates or learn the game all together.
“The tournament was started by AFHS as there was no freshman/sophomore tournaments,” said Matheny. “Board President Bruce Tucker was instrumental the first year in organizing it and  to help give it traction the first year so it will be around  for years to come. Roger and Connie Miller took over and last year we had 16 teams attend with two teams coming in from Las Vegas.”
This years lineup includes: Lone Peak, Liberty HS (Henderson, NV), Alta, Lehi, Sky View, American Fork, Herriman, Bingham, Pleasant Grove, Brighton, Viewmont, Palo Verde (Las Vegas), Copper Hills and Park City.
Palo Verde enjoyed their time so much last year, Mark Lovejoy, the Palo Verde Lacrosse President said, “This was one of the best reviews we got from our parents as far as tournaments go. We can’t wait to come back!”
