Alta Girls Hire New Head Coach, Still Seeking Assistants

Josh SullivanThe Alta High School girls lacrosse program has hired Josh Sullivan as their new Head Coach. Coach Sullivan played lacrosse for Woods Cross High School. Sullivan began coaching in 2011 as an assistant coach for Bountiful High School. The following two years, he returned to Woods Cross as an assistant coach.
Woods Cross went from having a win-less season in 2011 before Sullivan arrived, to a 5-7 record in 2012, including a trip to the state Semifinals and a 10-2 record in 2013.
“I have a lot of good memories with Woods Cross,” stated Sullivan, “and had the great opportunity to coach some all state and conference players like Daisy Mele, Cassidy Strohn, and Hailey Tebbs.”
“I’m very excited to be the head coach at Alta. I met with their president, former coach [Jeff] Gorringe, and a board member and I was very impressed by how they run their program and the importance they place on values and being your best on and off the field. They’ve got a great program with a lot of tradition and have had a lot of success and I hope to come in and build on that.”
In 2013, Alta had a record of 8-5. They were defeated in the first round of playoffs by runners-up Park City.
For the past two years, Alta Girls were coached by Jeff Gorringe. Gorringe has chosen to step down from his position as head coach. Sullivan commented, “It was clear when I spoke with him how much the team means to him and I’ve heard good things about him as a coach.”
Alta is still looking for assistant coaches. Assistants should have either playing or coaching experience and should contact the team president, Julie Christensen, at altagirlslacrosse@hotmail.com if interested.

  1. Seriously? I understand that Alta is going to struggle with them losing their only great athletes and Corner Canyon opening up but do they have no standard at all? They must not have had any other applicants and were very desperate.

    1. This cracks me up, now 4 years later. Alta has never lost to Corner Canyon. Alta has reached the playoffs every year, with monumental upsets of Riverton and Brighton. All of this after the program was decimated, literally cut in half with the CC split. Mr.tellitlikeitis you couldn’t be more wrong, and now you’re left looking like an idiot.

  2. The credit belongs to those people who are actually in the arena..who know the great enthusiams, the great devotions to a worthy cause;who,at best, know the triumph of high achivement;and who,at worst, fail while daring greatly,so that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat..
