Alta Hires Familiar Face as New Head Coach

Alta Lacrosse LogoThe Alta Hawks Boys Lacrosse team has hired former assistant coach, Mark Davis, as the new Head Coach. Former Head Coach Todd Handley stepped down after the 2011 season.
“I learned a lot and I was very fortunate to coach with some great coaches and men,” said Handley. “We were lucky to have some very good players. Having a 2 Time All-American and 2 Time State MVP anchor our defense was nice and Boston was our coach on the field. We had a very good group of kids and athletes. I was just along for the ride and trying not to screw it up too bad. Taylor Cotterell did a great job before me and Mark Davis will do a great job going forward.”
Davis grew up in Maryland and has been playing since he was 6 years old and was an All-American in High School. After High School, Davis came to Utah and played for BYU for 3 years, earning All-American honors and an MCLA Championship in 2007.
Davis started coaching in 2008 under the late Randy Stout at Lone Peak. Stout and Davis led the team to an undefeated season and a Division B Championship. In 2010 and 2011, Davis was the Offensive Coordinator at Alta before getting hired as the Head Coach.
“Alta has been a premier program in the state for a long time and that excites me to take it over,” said Davis. “The last few coaches have done an excellent job with the program and I hope I can add my lacrosse knowledge and elevate it that much more.”
Davis will have the help of Dave Michaeli and Tom McNeilis who were both with Alta last season.
When not on the lacrosse field, Davis spends time with his wife Jessica and their son Theodore.
