Alta Records Second Straight Shutout With Win Over Jordan

Alta HawksJordan came into tonight’s game at home looking to shake off a two game losing streak against rival Alta. Alta was riding the momentum however of winning with a shutout over Spanish Fork and a four game winning streak. In a game that looked on paper to be a close game, the game was controlled start to finish by Alta and their swarming defense that wouldn’t allow Jordan to get anything set up on offense. The Hawks came away with a 13-0 win.
The scoring for Alta started fast when Chase Oviatt caused a turnover on Jordan’s first possession and took it back for a goal. Oviatt would score again just a short time later when he cut to his left on a dodge and found the back of the net.  Alta’s defense was stifling and didn’t let Jordan gain a possession most of the first quarter.  Alta’s offense was up to the task of capitalizing on those turnovers caused by the defense. By the time Jordan could call a time out, the score was 5-0 Alta after Connor Pyle scored a goal and had two assists: one to Oviatt who notched his hat trick very early and one to Tanner Jones. Out of the time out Alta scored again when Pyle found Jones again cutting through the defense for the catch and score.
The second quarter was much of the same with Alta’s defense controlling most of the game and giving their offense multiple opportunities to score.  Alta took long possessions that controlled the game. Mid way through the 2nd quarter Matt Hunter found Oviatt on a man up situation in which Oviatt ripped an outside high to high Laser to the top corner for the only goal of the quarter.  Despite the 7-0 lead in the game, Jordan’s goalie Jared Rigby was keeping his team somewhat close with his six saves in the first half.
The second half of the game started quickly when Tanner found Zach Pexton on the fast break goal.  Tanner would find Hunter shortly after that in a feed to the crease that resulted in a goal placed over the goalie’s shoulder.  Connor Pyle had the next four goals for Alta with great assists on all of them from his teammates, including his last goal when defender Justin Hunt pressed the right side of the field on a clear and skipped a pass all the way to the back side of the defense where Pyle ripped a shot into the back of the net.
Alta Head Coach Kevin Perkins said after the game, “The boys executed the game plan to perfection; we don’t really do anything we don’t do in practice.” Perkins added, “We’ve been really focusing on carrying great practices over to great games.”
Jordan will look to put this game behind them quickly when they move on to face Bingham on Saturday. Alta will have to wait until next Tuesday to try to extend their winning streak when they face off against Timpanogos.
