Amy Erickson Appointed to Lead Bingham Miners

Amy Erickson - Bingham Girls LacrosseThe Bingham Miners Girls Lacrosse team will look to repeat this year with a new coach. Amy Erickson has agreed to lead the Miners, replacing Coach Hitz who is retiring because she is expecting. Erickson coached at Skyline for the past five seasons.
“This season I am looking forward to new challenges that will push this team and me to work harder and to explore new heights that will help us to grow,” said Erickson.
Bingham has recently enjoyed success including an undefeated season and the Girls D-I Championship in 2012 and a 17-4-1 season in 2011, losing in the Championship game to Alta.
“Who wouldn’t feel some pressure coming to a team like Bingham,” said Erickson. “Coach Hitz and Coach Grizzle have done an awesome job these last 2 years and I hope to continue to improve what they have started. Pressure is one of the finest ways to create something outstanding. I hope that this season will bring some pretty outstanding outcomes.”
Erickson has been coaching for several years, but it wasn’t until a mentor helped guide the way that things became clear.
“I was lucky because it just kind of fell into my lap,” said Erickson. “I had a close friend a few years younger than me ask me if I’d be interested in coaching her high school team because they were desperate to find a coach so I said sure. It sounded fun and I wanted to stay involved with lacrosse. The first year was rough, but I went to a coaching clinic after that first season and it really helped. Mason Goodhand spoke at it and it completely changed the way I looked at coaching as well as how I coached.”
Erickson has chosen George Grizzle, Ray LiVitre and Theresa Christensen to be assistant and JV coaches. Bingham has a solid roster with numerous key players, but Erickson thinks Kira Heiden, Kaitlin Peterson, Cassidy Grizzle, and Morgan Judd will led the team and motivate the other players on the path to back-to-back championships.
Erickson played lacrosse in high school in Minnesota and for a year at the University of Utah. When not on the field, Erickson is a mom of one and a nanny of three.
