The Stories That Matter Most To The Utah Lacrosse Community

Behind The Goggles: West Jordan Midfielder Mia White

We had a chance to talk to West Jordan Midfielder Mia White about a wide array of topics. White started playing lacrosse in the 4th grade when her sister brought home a flyer from her gym class that was for the Murray Little League team. “Mostly I started plying because I wanted to do something with her, but it quickly turned into a love for this sport,” said White.
ULN: Describe your favorite lacrosse memory.
MW: My favorite lacrosse memory has to be either when we had a cake fight at practice for my coach’s birthday or when Select took the championship down in Vegas in November.
ULN: What is your current stick of choice?
MW: My current stick, the one that I am very attached to, is a plain old Crux with an aluminum shaft that I’ve had to tape over and over again. However, I’m super excited for the Epoch Dragonfly shaft and it’s actually making me consider leaving my current stick for a new one.
ULN: What is your favorite pre-game ritual?
MW: Two things: I have a laminated card that has a quote on it about failure and how many times you have to fail before you can succeed. That card keeps me out of my head when I play, it keeps me from taking myself out of the game and dwelling on every mistake I make. Then, my team and I do a short 30 second meditation before the game. It sounds weird and cheesy but it really helps us visualize what kind of game we want to have.
ULN: Besides your own home field, what is your favorite field to play lacrosse on?
MW: Corner Canyons field, oh man that field is so nice. Not only is it nice to play on but it’s super nice to watch a game on. Like last years championships, you could see everything from those bleachers.
ULN: How/Why did you pick your jersey number?
MW: To be completely honest, I didn’t. It was one of the only smalls that wasn’t taken my freshman year. However, I have this quirk where I hate changing numbers within the same team. I kept my number because that was my number my freshman year so it was going to be my number until my last.
ULN: Who is on your iPod these days?
MW: Fleetwood Mac, G-Easy, Shakira, it’s a pretty wide range of music.
ULN: If you could only take 3 items with you to a deserted island for the rest of your life, what items would they be and why?
MW: I would bring my paints because that’s gotta be a pretty awesome view. I’d also bring my families bugs because I absolutely despise bugs. Lastly, I think I would bring my record player and a couple records (can that count as one?). I don’t think I’d bring anything to really try and survive, just things that’ll help me enjoy my peace and quiet.
ULN: Best Beach Spot? Hawaii, California or Mexico?
MW: Hawaii
ULN: What are your post high school plans?
MW: I’m likely going to Westminster to double major in Art History and Business Management, I want to be a museum curator.
ULN: When not playing lacrosse, what are you doing in your free time?
MW: I wish I could be doing my painting, reading and cooking. Yet the reality is that I’m probably doing homework or watching Teen Wolf.
ULN: Coke or Pepsi?
MW: Coke
ULN: Favorite pizza place?
MW: The Pie!
ULN: What is the first thing you would do if you win the Championship this year? Who would be the first person you would call or text?
MW: I’d honestly probably cry. To win a championship in my last year of playing high school lacrosse, that’d be a dream. Well, hopefully they’d be at the game, but the first person I’d call would be my best friend Masami. She goes to T-Ville and we’ve known each other since we were two and she’s my best friend. She’s someone I tell everything to.
Thanks Mia! Good luck this season!
