Bengals Defeat Beetdiggers in D-I North Showdown

Brighton BengalsBrighton traveled to Jordan for a highly anticipated, D-I North match-up. These two teams met up in the Gathering of the Tribes tournament with Jordan beating Brighton by two. Brighton was ranked fourth behind Jordan in the coaches poll all year but the Week 6 poll saw Brighton jump Jordan for the first time. This game was very important to both teams. Brighton, itching for revenge and both teams fighting for playoff spots. The game ended with Brighton winning 10-8.
The game started quickly for the Beetdiggers with Katie Bangerter controlling the first draw and Mikayla Parker getting the first goal of the game. Brighton was able to control the ensuing draw and had missed the goal three times before Zoe Totland was finally able to tie the score at one.
The first half went back and forth and finally ended with the score Brighton 5 and Jordan 3.
Brighton was able to take control and get up by 3 but Jordan was determined to stay in the game. They surged back late scoring three unanswered points but it wasn’t enough to beat the Bengals.
Brighton was lead by freshman Zoe Totland, sophomore Bergan Mcardle, sophomore Tiffiny Wallace and senior Amy Johnston all with two goals. Jordan was lead by senior Mikayla Parker and senior Whitney Sieverts with three goals apiece.
Bengal goalie, Taylor Hekking had 10 saves while Jordan goalie, Sasha Mckee recorded 5 saves.
Brighton controlled 15 of 20 draws.
“We played well,” said Brighton Head Coach Kendra Francis. “I was really impressed with the adjustments our girls made on the draw. We were able to make the adjustments to keep getting possession.”
Brighton will play Skyline on April 22 while Jordan will play Olympus on Thursday.
