Bengals Spread the Wealth, Defeat Vikings 18-12

Brighton LacrosseThe Brighton Bengals had 14 different players get in the points column in their win over Viewmont 18-12 on Tuesday afternoon. 10 different players scored goals led by sophomore attackmen, Hunter Albert and Bubba Fairman with 4 goals apiece and junior midfielder Forrest Engle who notched 3 goals. Senior Mario Garcia dished out 4 assists—three to Albert–to go with a goal of his own to lead the team with 5 points. Coach Brandon Horoba commented on the strength of his team’s bench, “it was great to see guys that don’t play a lot to get some quality playing time and contribute to the success of the team.”
Brighton shot an outstanding 43% for the game adding a 72% assist to goal ratio. Ashton Schmidt, Scott Bunker backed up Garcia’s 4 assists with two each, while Logan Lund, Grant Pierce, Kaden Garden, Luke Fairman and Bailey Pope each found teammates for assisted goals.
The Bengals used relentless defensive pressure causing 19 Vikings turnovers that they turned into several fast break opportunities that led to goals. Horoba also noted that his team cleared the ball very well as his defense, led by goalie Mitch World, Brody Bolerjack, Nathan Kenney, Bryson Taylor, Nick Carrigan, Kaden Garden and Dylan Pearmain, did a great job keeping their heads up and finding streaking players down field to get the ball quickly into the offensive set. The defense also turned offensive as Sophomores Max Hoole and Bryson Taylor both scored coast to coast goals for Brighton.
Viewmont played a tough game keeping the score close all game. Brighton jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Vikings kept fighting going into the half down just 9-5. The third and fourth quarters were hard fought ending 14-8 in the 3rd and then an even played 4 goals each in the fourth quarter produced the final score 18-12.
The Vikings were led by Junior Matt Cena who scored 4 goals and Senior Connor Clay who found the net 3 times. Sophomore goalie Zack Skok and close defenders Parker Handley and Landon Ward led the defensive effort for Coach Clay’s Viewmont squad.
The Bengals now 11-1 on the season and ranked 24th in the western region by will take on Syracuse and Alta on the 23rd and 24th, Viewmont will resume play Friday vs. Woods Cross.
