Bingham’s Excellent First Half is enough to Beat Timpview

The Bingham Miners hosted the Timpview Thunderbirds in a great early season match-up. The game could easily be summed up by one term: transitions. Both sides saw success at the faceoff X and with successful clears, but in the end the Miners were able to capitalize on good ball movement and quick fast breaks to earn a 15-6 win.
Miner’s head coach Meade Mackay said, “We did a really nice job on faceoffs and in transition. It’s something we worked hard on in practice this week and it showed on the field today.”
The Miners came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. They quickly capitalized on their first few possessions to put them up 11-0 at the end of the first half. #2 Tyler Monsen and #22 Dallin Bentley both had multiple goals in the first quarter. The Miner defense was relentless and had a few caused turnovers that led to quick transition goals as well. The T-Birds were mostly quiet for the 1st half and the Miner defense was able to hold together and stop the few attempts the t-birds had.
2016-Bingham-Timpview-02The second half of the game was a different story. The T-Birds must have had one heck of a halftime speech because they came out swinging after the break. The T-Birds’ #9 Will Watanabe saw a lot of success at the faceoff X in the 3rd quarter and was able to help Timpview put up 5 points in the 3rd quarter. With the help of solid defensive play, the Timpview players rallied together and were able to possess the ball for most of the 3rd quarter. Timpview’s Richard Oveson had 2 goals as well in the T-Bird counterstrike. Bingham held tight against the T-Bird attack but was only able to counter with one additional goal.
However, the T-Bird’s success was short lived and was put to rest by a 4th quarter hat trick from Bingham’s #1 Brock McKinney. Despite having a few extra man opportunities in the 4th, the T-Birds were only able to secure one additional goal. In the end the Miner’s well-executed transition game was enough to top the T-Birds, earning Bingham an early-season victory.
Bingham will face a stiff challenge as they host traditional frontrunner Juan Diego on Tuesday at 4:30; Timpview will try to bounce back as they host Westlake on Wednesday at 7:30.
