Bountiful Defeats Davis, Takes First Place in North Conference

The Bountiful Braves (7-6, 1-0) beat the Davis Darts (5-6, 1-1) by the score of 18-12 in Bountiful on Friday. With the win, the Braves temporarily take the top spot in the Boys D-I North Conference.
The game was very close for the first half of the first quarter. Davis took an early three goal lead but Bountiful fought back. The game was tied at five when Bountiful made a three goal run to take a 8-5 lead. The Braves were able to capitalize on two man-up opportunities in the run in a game with 24 penalties. Davis answered right back with a man-up goal to make the score 8-6 at the end of the first quarter.

A three goal run for Bountiful put them up 12-6 in the second quarter. Davis had a two goal run of their own to bring the score within three. Bountiful went on a two goal run to push the deficit to five. At the end of the quarter, Davis was able to score two men down. The Darts defense threw the ball to the other side of the field after collecting a loose ball. Davis Attackmen Dillon Yocom scooped up the pass and took it to the cage, drawing the slide, leaving fellow attackmen Jason Squire wide open on the crease. Squire quick sticked it in for the goal.
In the third quarter, Davis scored at the 7:09 mark to bring the game within three goals. Both teams would score again in the third quarter to bring the score to 14-11 in favor of Bountiful.
Both teams battled hard in the fourth quarter. The score remained at 14-11 deep into the quarter. Bountiful was able to score two quick goals at the 2:24 and 1:58 marks to put the game out of reach but Davis scored on the ensuing face-off, giving the Darts hope. Bountiful held tough and put two more goals in for the 18-12 win.
“We did well on face-offs and that provides us opportunities,” said Bountiful Head Coach Marty Wescott. “We did pretty good today in all aspects. We focused on our team this week in practice and wanted to stay together as a team and I feel that helped us today.”
Bountiful Midfielder Kiet Tran had 4 goals and 3 assists while teammate James Taylor had 4 goals and 2 assists. Yocom, Squire, and Mitch Wilkes had 3 points each for the Darts. Bountiful won 26 out of 31 face-offs.
Bountiful will host conference foe Bonneville on April 25. Also on that day, Davis will head to Viewmont in a key North Conference showdown.
