Bountiful Knocks Off Jordan to Advance to the Semi's

Bountiful JordanThe Bountiful Braves hosted the Jordan Beetdiggers Friday afternoon in the UHSLL Quarterfinals.  After a slow start for both teams, the Braves topped the Beetdiggers 11-6 to advance to the Semifinals
The first quarter was a game of possession.  Both teams took their time working the ball around and taking shots.  However, it took a majority of the quarter for the teams to warm up and get their shots on cage.   Bountiful was the first on the scoreboard from Brock Jeppeson with a quick shot.  The first quarter wrapped up with the Braves over the Beetdiggers 1-0.
The Braves opened up the quarter with 2 goals from Jace Thomas. Both of his shots stung top shelf to bring the score to 3-0 over Jordan. Bountiful continued to possess and take shots but Jordan’s defense stepped up and shut Bountiful down for the next 5 minutes.    Jordan goalie Jared Rigby made great saves and commanded his defense very well.  But the defense could only hold the Braves offense off for so long.  Cam Redmond found James Clayton across the field with a wide open shot.  The half wrapped up with Bountiful leading 4-0.
Jordan opened up the scoring in the second half from Chandler Jeppsen. Jeppsen got open right on the crease and snuck the ball into the back of the net.  Bountiful responded quickly and with force.  Brock Jeppeson got 3 of his 5 goals in the next 30 seconds, with two assists coming from Redmond, and one from Mike Cheney.  A majority of Bountiful’s shots and goals, including the ones from Jeppeson’s, have come from one attackmen crossing the entire defense and finding the opposite attackmen with time and space.  Jordan had shots and possession in this quarter, but they were unable to convert on their offensive chances. The 3rd quarter wrapped up with the Braves still leading the Beetdiggers 9-1.
Jordan turned things around in the 4th quarter and went on a great run.  Chandler Jeppsen notched up two more goals to complete a hat trick.  The second of Jeppsen’s goals came from goalie Jared Rigby, who ran down the field for the clear and found Jeppsen open for the shot.  Bountiful answered from Brock Jeppeson again, bringing his goals to a total of 5 for the game. Jordan and Bountiful would each score two more times, bringing the final score to 11-6.
Jordan outscored Bountiful on the 4th quarter 5-2.  If Jordan would have played as they did in the 4th quarter, it would have been a completely different game.  Jordan’s shots and offensive pressure was there, it was either just barley off target, or Bountiful goalie Dalin Hampshire was there to eat it up.  Bountiful took 49 shots and had 44 ground balls to Jordan’s 34 shots and 36 ground balls.
Bountiful Head Coach Marty Wescott was very pleased with how his team played. “We had a lot of good opportunities, we just didn’t quiet finish in the first half like we wanted too,” he said. “Overall, that was probably our best defensive game of the year. Jace dominated on face off. It was a good all-around game for us,” he concluded.
With this victory, Bountiful and Corner Canyon are set to play next Tuesday in the UHSLL Semifinals at Alta High School. The two teams met earlier in the season with Corner Canyon winning by one goal.
