Boys 2016 Class-A Semifinal Sneak-Peek

The Boys Class-A semifinals will be played this Wednesday, May 18 at Park City High School at 6 and 8 pm. The four teams involved have been the favorites all season long, setting up two of the most highly-anticipated showdowns of the year. Let’s see how these squads match-up:
No. 1 Brighton vs. No. 4 Park City
Brighton BengalsBrighton Bengals
Path to Semis: beat Pleasant Grove 16-4, beat Davis 20-6
Goals per Game: 14.4 Goals Allowed per Game: 6.5
Record vs Class-A Teams: 12-0 Streak: Won 15

Path to Semis: beat Judge 13-9, beat Fremont 12-6
Goals per Game: 9.3 Goals Allowed per Game: 6.2
Record vs Class-A Teams: 7-4 Streak: Won 2
Head-to-Head: Brighton won 12-8
These two programs have been some of the best in the state over the last decade and they know each other well, having been on one another’s schedule each year since 2010. The last time the Bengals and Miners played, Park City held pace with Brighton for three quarters but couldn’t hold on in the fourth, giving Brighton their closest Class-A game of the season. Both squads bring stellar defenses to the party, allowing opponents to get to double-digits just three times combined all season long (one of those was Brighton’s 12 against PC). The Bengals also have depth on the offensive end and at the face-off X. Park City has shown they can play with anyone, but they’ll need to figure out how to match Brighton’s potent offense and how to win the ride/clear game.
No. 2 Juan Diego vs. No. 3 Corner Canyon

Record vs Class-A Teams: 10-1 Streak: Won 8

Path to Semis: beat Skyline 14-5, beat Olympus 10-4
Goals per Game: 11.9 Goals Allowed per Game: 8.6
Record vs Class-A Teams: 10-3 Streak: Won 3
Head-to-Head: Juan Diego won 11-7
The Chargers have been nipping at the Soaring Eagle’s heels all season long, playing common opponents to equal results and giving JD a close game at home. This match-up is opposite the other Class-A semifinal, each team bringing an identically dangerous offense to the field and using good offensive sets to get them out of trouble. However, Chargers will need to match the discipline of the Soaring Eagle who play very precise in all aspects of the game. If Corner Canyon can use their athleticism to counter Juan Diego’s precision, this will be a game for the ages.
