Boys: Brighton Defeats Timpanogos in Champions Challenge

The Brighton Bengals beat the Timpanogos Timberwolves by the score of 14-6 on Saturday at McCarthey Field at Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City. The game was played as part of the inaugural Champions Challenge which pits the previous Division I and Division II Champions against each other.
Brighton gained an early 3 goal lead but Timpanogos didn’t give up and scored halfway through the first quarter, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Bengals. The flow of the game went back and forth as both teams struggled to maintain possession. Brighton answered with two goals to take a four goal lead but the Timberwolves answered with two goals of their own to make the score 5-3 with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Timpanogos, this is the closest they would come for the rest of the game.

Brighton continued to run, taking a 9-4 lead into halftime. Both teams scored two goals in the third but Brighton scored three in the fourth and held the Timberwolves scoreless en route to a 14-6 win.
“It was a typical first game,” said Brighton Head Coach Brandon Horoba. “It was sloppy for both teams on both ends but we’re happy to get out of here with a win.”
Brighton was lead by Senior Attackmen Jayden Haws who had 4 goals.
“I felt like we played very well,” said Timpanogos Head Coach Mike Schow. “We didn’t quite execute like we practiced but we had some first game jitters.”
Timpanogos will face Orem on Thursday at Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah.
Brighton will head to Colorado to face Air Academy, Highlands Ranch, Columbine and Regis Jesuit.
