Boys: No. 3 Alta’s Slow Start Turns Into A Strong Finish

The No. 3 Alta Hawks pulled a victory against the Jordan Beetdiggers with a score of 15-8 on Friday at their home field.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the first two quarters of the game. Jordan controlled the first quarter, taking a quick 4-0 lead. Alta adjusted their offense by the start of the second quarter which paid off for the Hawks as they were able to switch the momentum of the game in their favor. By the half the Hawks tied the game 5-5.
Alta came out strong at the beginning of the third quarter and was able to dominate Jordan throughout the rest of the game. The Beetdiggers defense played well but the Hawks Attackmen proved their skills and were able to score 10 more goals by the end of the game while the Beetdiggers offense struggled to control the ball only putting 3 more goals inside the Hawks net.
When asked about Alta’s performance coach Todd Handley stated, “Overall I was very pleased with the win. We started off slow and Jordan played very well. They controlled the momentum of the first quarter but we recovered very well and on the whole I’m proud of our guys.”
Alta’s team work has paid off as they have remained in the top five teams of the Prodigy Coaches Poll for the last three weeks. The win over Jordan puts Alta’s overall record to 5-1, however coach Handley still expects his players to improve in some aspects of the game.
“We have to improve our consistency, we have to come out better, start off faster and get better at ground balls,” said Handley.
Both teams have away games next week as Alta will face Brighton on Tuesday and Jordan will travel to take on Pleasant Grove the same day.
