Boys: Timpanogos Blasts Davis to Advance to D-II Final

The Timpanogos Timberwolves took down the Davis Darts on Tuesday in the Division II state semifinal by a score of 15-6 to move on to the state championship game, earning a chance to defend their title.   Davis and Timpanogos were two of the top teams in D-II this season and played a tight first half before the T-wolves took over.
Both teams struggled to settle down in the first quarter, showing some big game nerves between the two.  The transition game was sloppy to start out, with neither team getting many chances on the offensive end.  Senior Middie Brock Dickerson got the scoring started for Timpanogos about 5 minutes in to the game.  Davis answered right back though, with a goal from Senior Middie Colin Steele, assisted by Sophomore Attackman Dillon Yocom.  The T-wolves attack got in to the game next with Junior Attackman Tanner Marsh assisting Sophomore Attackman Winston Farley in front of the cage.  Yocom answered back for Davis, scoring an unassisted goal to end the quarter at 2-2.

The Sophomore Attackmen kept it going for the darts in the second, assisting Senior Middie Brock Beyer for a blast eighteen feet out on man-up to go up 3-2.  Timpanogos retaliated, with an unassisted goal by Sophomore Middie Morgan Dickerson to tie it up once more at 3-3.  The T-wolves stole the momentum going in to the second half with a man up goal at :27 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, from a goal by Sophomore Attackman Jake Hougaard, ending the half at 4-3.  Davis dominated all aspects of the game in the first half except the score, winning 7 of 8 face offs and controlling the GB game.
The Timberwolves turned up the intensity in the second half, evening out the intangibles to take control once more.  Timpanogos scored on man-up to push the lead to 5-3 before the Darts got one back on a man-up chance of their own to move the game to 5-4.  The T-wolves took over from their though, scoring the next 3 goals of the quarter, the last 2 on man-up to push their lead to 8-4 at the end of the 3rd.
Davis came out looking to get back into it to start the 4th quarter, showing patience on offense, they worked the ball around until Senior Attackman Tanner Boden found a cutting Yocom to slice the lead to 3 goals.  The defending champs would not let it get any closer, scoring the next 6 goals of the game to go up 14-5.  Each team scored once more but the game was over at that point.  Timpanogos definitely earned their chance at another title, winning the game 15-6.
The Darts were led by Sophomore Attackman Dillon Yocom who had 2 goals and 4 assists throughout the game.  Fellow Attackman Senior Tanner Boden had 1 goal and 1 assist, with Senior Middie Brock Beyer notching 2 goals.  The Darts Junior goalie Berklee Baskin had a solid first half with 6 saves, but was hammered in the second half, finishing with 11 saves on 27 on cage.
Timpanogos was led by their stellar attack line, who had a combined 22 points in the game.  Sophomore Jake Hougaard had 5 goals and 3 assists on the day, with fellow Sophomore Winston Farley scoring 4 of his own and helping out with 1 assist.  The most impressive player on the attack for the T-wolves was Junior Tanner Marsh who had a total of 8 assists throughout the game, finding Farley for 3 goals, including the Prodigy Play of the Game. Senior Goalie Cameron Wilkey was dominant in between the pipes for Timpanogos, with 14 saves on 20 shots on goal, finishing with a save percentage of nearly 75.
When asked about his Senior Goalie, Timpanogos Head Coach Mike Schow said, “He’s solid, straight up.  The guy will stop almost anything that comes his way.  Our defense did a really good job of helping him out, they didn’t take a lot of good shots, they took a lot of contested shots, which made it difficult for them to score.”
Davis’ season is now over, but they have plenty of talent to make it back next season, with only 3 seniors starting.  This experience of a tough loss should make them a better team next year. Whether they like it or not, this loss will help the Darts grow as a team.
Timpanogos moves on to face the winner of the second game on Tuesday, the Spanish Fork Warriors.  The two teams took each other on just a few weeks back, with the Timberwolves winning 8-3.
The rematch for the state title will be played on Saturday, May 21st, 1:00 PM at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
