Braves Claim Class C Championship Over Bees

The Bountiful Braves met up with the Box Elder Bees in the UHSLL Boys Class C Championship game. The Braves started hot, getting an early lead. Box Elder worked hard to get back into the game, but after being down in the first they could not recover. The Braves claimed the Class C Championship with the 10 to 6 win.
“We have definitely built up to this moment,” stated Bountiful Head Coach Pete Jordan. “We had a lot of growing pains along the way. We had our best practice of the year yesterday. We had our best all-around game today.”

Bountiful entered the field ready to play from the opening faceoff. The Braves immediately took control and dominated possession for most of the quarter. After a few minutes of setting up for the right opportunity, Bountiful Attackman Jeff Pattison scored the team’s first goal. The Braves scored two more goals before Box Elder. Bountiful continued to take control and the team scored two more goals by the end of the first.
Bountiful wasted little time scoring in the second quarter. Within the first minute Pattison had scored his second goal. At this point in the game there was a noticeable change in how the Bees were playing, particularly of offense. Although the ball saw both ends of the field, Box Elder attackman Blake Chase was able to convert on two opportunities, while the Braves were unable to score again.
The Bees’ increased intensity continued into the third quarter. Box Elder Attackman Isaac Houghtalen scored the first goal of the half. Seeing their early lead fading, the Braves scored within the next 15 seconds. At this point the game became much more physical. Defense was causing more turnovers and offense was having to really work for opportunities. As the quarter came to an end, the Braves owned the 8-5 lead.
With the game still fairly close, both teams were showing they wanted to win this championship. The final quarter began as a battle for possession. The first goal of the fourth did not come until there were less than six minutes when Bountiful attackman Zac Jones scored his second and third goals. Down five points with four-and-a-half minutes to go, Box Elder had one last shot to come back. However, the Bees were only able to convert one final goal. Bountiful held strong until the final seconds and walked away with the Boys Class C Championship.
Coach Jordan continued, “Our seniors came up big today. Jeff Pattison was the player of the game, Zac Jones, it was just fun to see them peak at the right time and pull the win out.”
In looking forward to the upcoming season, Jordan said “I am looking forward to how many returners we have. It will be exciting to have the same group back.”
