Brighton Announces Under Armour Partnership & New Head Coach

image1COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, UT – The Brighton High School Boy’s Lacrosse Board of Directors
have announced that Varsity Co-Head Coach, Gerrit Schafrath has been promoted to Head Coach.
“The vision Gerrit presented our lacrosse program, as well as the character, integrity, and leadership skills he displayed during the last five years with the team makes him the right coach for the Brighton Bengals,” said Jen Ebeling, Co-President of the Brighton Lacrosse Board. “We are thrilled to have Coach Schafrath in place to continue the incredible winning legacy and tradition that Coach Horoba, Coach Gray and other coaches have built.”
Coach Schafrath has served in the Brighton Lacrosse Program since 2012 as the varsity assistant coach, defensive coordinator, and most recently as a co-head coach alongside Brandon Horoba. Coach Schafrath played college lacrosse at perennial power Johns Hopkins University. In addition, he has coached premier high school programs in both the Midwest and in Connecticut. During Schafrath’s playing career, teams he participated on had a combined record of 108 – 12 (90% winning percentage). As a coach, his teams have compiled an 87% winning record going 103 – 16.
“We are fortunate to have a coach at the helm with Gerrit’s background and experience. He is just the man to take over our program at this time to continue to move it forward,” added Co- President Kevin Kehl.
When asked for a response to his new position, Coach Schafrath remarked, “I am excited about the
opportunity and ready to get to work. My focus is making a positive difference in the lives of the young men who are part of the Brighton high school and youth feeder programs today and in the future. I take this responsibility very seriously and the rest of my staff will share this priority. Additionally, we will play an exciting brand of lacrosse that will make our fans, alumni, student body and members of the Brighton community extremely proud. I have great respect for the Brighton program and its heritage. And as a coach, winning is important, but at the same time, I want to assure the Brighton family that every decision we will make in this lacrosse program will be made with the best interests of our student-athletes in mind.”
Coach Schafrath and his wife Svitlana live in the Brighton community and have four daughters; Bella, a senior and member of the Brighton Girls Lacrosse team; Misha, a sophomore and member of the Brighton Accadians team; Sabi, a first grader, and Katya, age 2.
Under Armour Partnership
Coach Gerrit Schafrath and the Brighton Lacrosse Program are proud and excited to announce a partnership with Under Armour Lacrosse, the maker of high performance athletic clothing and lacrosse gear. “I couldn’t be more thrilled for our players,” Coach Schafrath said. “I want to sincerely thank Under Armour for this partnership. We will certainly look and feel good this year while playing lacrosse. But more importantly, all of us, players, parents and coaches now have an additional obligation to represent the Under Armour brand with honor, sportsmanship and pride.”
As part of the Under Armour Team Partnership Program, Brighton Lacrosse will be one just a handful of teams in the Western United States and the first in Utah to be selected for the program. Under the teams of terms of the agreement, Brighton Lacrosse will be an ambassador of the Under Armour brand. As such, Brighton Lacrosse will be outfitted in the latest Under Armour performance gear including uniforms, cleats, socks, practice gear, and more.
Kevin Kehl and Jen Ebeling, Co-Presidents of Brighton Lacrosse summed up the Program’s sentiment very well adding, “We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious partnership.”
