Brighton Controls Corner Canyon in Early Season Match-Up

Brighton - Corner Canyon

The Brighton Bengals and Corner Canyon Chargers met twice last season, once in the regular season with the Chargers squeaking out the 10-9 victory, and again in the state semifinals where Corner Canyon rolled to a 15-5 win. The game on Friday evening showed that the dynamic may have changed and gave fans everything they hoped to see: hectic transition play, physical hits and dodges, impressive goalie saves, and an elevated level of lacrosse from two of the state’s top teams.  The Bengals were able to control the contest behind a strong performance and four goals from preseason all-American Bubba Fairman. Able to build an early lead, Brighton responded after each Charger run, maintaining control of the game and a multiple-goal lead throughout, giving them the 13-8 victory.
“First game, lots of jitters,” mused Brighton head coach Brandon Horoba, “We’re happy to come out with the W, but both teams are going to get a lot better as the season goes on. There’s a lot we take away from this, even though it’s a win.”
Brighton - Corner CanyonDespite the losing effort, Corner Canyon had some outstanding individual performances: Maxwell Franckowiak was a star for the Chargers with a strong night at the faceoff X, four goals, and three assists. Davis Zwicky and Maxwell Asay also each netted two goals on the evening.
To add to Fairman’s four-goal performance for the Bengals, Dylan Pearmain achieved a hat trick including an early pirouette through three defenders to give Brighton the momentum at the beginning of the contest.
“Dylan Pearmain utilized his speed to get open looks and score and Bryson Taylor was all over the field at the LSM position,” said Coach Horoba, “Today was just the first step for both teams and we’re happy to be on top. It’s gonna be a fun season; I think tonight was just the start of what’s going to be a fun year.”
