Brighton Tops Timpanogos For Second League Win

For Immediate Release – Brighton Lacrosse
Brighton used a 2 goal, 2 assist game from Grant Pierce to jump on top of the scrappy Timpanogos Cutthroats and win their second league game 16-2 on Saturday.
The Bengals shot 43% as a team, with Bubba Fairman scoring 3 goals on the day, followed by Pierce, Bailey Pope, Scott Bunker, Forrest Engle and Logan Lund all with two goals each.  Ryan Fogerty and Hunter Albert each scored a goal, and defender Bryson Taylor put up his first varsity goal to cap off the Bengal assault.
2014-Brighton-Timpanogos-Lund-1Brighton won 57% of the overall faceoffs with Logan Lund leading the way, going 11-14 for 79%.  The Bengal coaches gave 3 other players a shot at the faceoff X as well on this day with Sione Heimuli-Lund (1-5), Bobby Paulson (1-2) and Miles Paulson (0-1) all taking a crack at Devin Henson from Timpanogos.
Timpanogos playing their first league game had unassisted goals by Ted Galbraith and Chase Hansen.  The Cutthroats worked hard as an offense and put a lot of pressure on the Bengal defense all game long.  Goalie Ryan Wilkey had double digit saves and strong support from defenders Grant Dunn, Zach Reece and Nick Bair.
Brighton Juniors Quinton Mathie and Mitch World combined for a strong effort between the pipes putting up a combined 10 saves, World accounting for 6 of them.  They also did a great job all day getting the ball out quickly in the clear game which was another strong point for Brighton.
Defensively, Brighton got a great team effort from their poles, led by Nathan Kenney who had 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.  Brody Bolerjack, Bryson Taylor, Max Hoole and Aaron Nakamura teamed with defensive middies Heimuli-Lund, Kaden Garden and LSM Nick Carrigan to force 16 Cutthroat turnovers and control their side of the field.
Timpanogos next game will be Friday vs. Spanish Fork.  Brighton travels to Colorado Thursday for a 3 game stint vs. Ponderosa, Wheat Ridge and Rock Canyon High Schools.
