For Immediate Release – Brighton Lacrosse
Brighton BengalsThe Brighton Bengals remained unbeaten in USHLL play beating a gritty Lone Peak team 14-2 Friday night at Jordan High School. The Bengals playing without two injured offensive starters got scoring contributions from seniors Parker Smith and Kyler Garden who both notched 2 goals on the night. Brighton also got a goal apiece from sophomores Dylan Pearmain and Hunter Albert. Not to be outdone senior captain and close defender Brody Bolerjack picked off an errant pass, sprinted downfield dropped the ball to attackman Bubba Fairman, who quickly tossed it back to a wide open Bolerjack on the crease, 2 nice fakes and Bolerjack slotted the ball home.
Bubba Fairman had another stellar game with 2 goals and 3 assists. Not only was Fairman’s scoring important to the Bengals, but his pressure on clears and relentless pursuit of ground balls produced several extra possessions for the Bengal offense.
Quinton Mathie had another superb game in goal, notching a nifty 80% save ratio on the night and making several strong passes to open players on the Bengal clear.
Mitchell Decker found the back of the net twice for the Knights both in the 4th quarter to get his 11th and 12th goals of the season. Sophomore sensation Josh Stout was injured early in the game, hampering the normally potent Lone Peak offense. Sean Wetsel, Lone Peak’s junior goalie saw 45 Bengal shots come his way, turning back double digit saves.
It was a tough night for the Knights as Brighton showed a relentless defense and kept the pressure on all night pressing the crease and dominating time of possession.
Brighton will play two games this coming week, Monday at Pleasant Grove and Friday at Corner Canyon, in what could be the best game of the season here in Utah. Lone Peak will switch the order of opponents and play away games at Corner Canyon on Tuesday and Pleasant Grove on Friday.
