PROVO, Utah—The BYU Lacrosse team has announced three captains for the 2013 season.  Patrick Matheson, Rob Ostler and Mickell Walker will lead the Cougars.
Patrick Matheson is a senior midfielder from Holliday, Utah.  Matheson was an honorable mention All-American and earned RMLC 2nd All-Conference Team in the 2012 season.  Matheson averages 1.1 points per game and has scored 44 goals during his career.
Matheson is anxious to work with a group of guys who are passionate about lacrosse and are determined to succeed.
“I am excited to work with a lot of the guys here,” Matheson said. “Everyone has great attitudes.  To be a captain with a bunch of people who are ready to work makes it really easy and enjoyable.”
Rob Ostler is a junior goalie from Manorville, New York.  Ostler played for Utah Valley University before joining the Cougars in 2010.  He has recorded 65 saves in his career.
Ostler is honored to have been named a team captain and is ready for the season to begin.
“I am very excited, overwhelmed and pumped,” Ostler said.  “I am ready to do this.”
Mickell Walker is a senior defensive middle from Pleasant Grove, Utah.  Last season, Walker earned 2nd Team All-American Mid Defense and RMLC 2nd All-Conference Team.  Walker has played in 64 games throughout his career and has been a solid defender for the Cougars.  Last season, Walker scored 11 goals.
Walker is looking forward to serve as a team captain and knows other members of the team will help him lead.
“I am excited,” Walker said. “Fortunately, we have a lot of leaders on team and we have a dedicated group that have common goals.”
Head Coach Matt Schneck, entering his 4th year as BYU’s Head Coach and 12th year overall, has been involved with the captain selection process for many years at BYU.
“We approached the selection of our captains in a different way this year,” Schneck said. “Rather than selecting early in the fall, we allowed the players more time to determine who they would like to have lead them into the upcoming season.  As a coaching staff we are thrilled with the selection of Matheson, Walker and Ostler.  They truly represent the best of BYU Lacrosse and will do a fantastic job.”
The Brigham Young University Men’s Lacrosse Team is a proud member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). The Cougars have won four MCLA National Championship Titles – 1997, 2000, 2007 and 2011, and have been honored with more than 100 All-Americans who have proudly worn the Y.
