PROVO, UT– The Brigham Young University Men’s Lacrosse Team has announced an aggressive 16 game schedule for 2018. The Cougars will make four regular season, out-of-state road trips in an effort to play many of the MCLA’s top programs including six teams who attended the 2017 MCLA national tournament.

The Cougars have six home dates, beginning with SLC (Southwestern Lacrosse Conference) contender University of Nevada – Las Vegas  on February 10 to open the home schedule in the Cougars recently updated Indoor Facility.  The Cougars will then take to the road traveling to Northern California to play WCLL (Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) Stanford University on February 22 and the WCLL Pre-Season pick, Cal-Berkeley on February 24.  BYU will then head home for one game on March 3 to play the Panthers of Davenport University on BYU’s North University Field.

Two days following the Cougar’s game versus Davenport, they will head south to Texas for a challenging 3 game stretch.  The Cougars will first visit College Station on March 7 to meet the Aggies of Texas A&M followed by a quick turn around game on March 8 versus LSA (Lone Star Alliance) powerhouse University of Texas.  After a short day off, The Longhorns will host a neutral site matchup between the Cougars and the SELC  (South East Lacrosse Conference) Southeast division front runners, Florida State Seminoles.

The Cougars will face four PNCLL (Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League) teams in a row beginning with Pre-Season PNCLL pick, University of Oregon on March 17 in Provo, followed by a match up with University of Washington on March 19.   The Cougars will once again hit the road, this time to Boise, ID to meet Simon Fraser University on March 23 and Boise State on March 24.

March 30 begins RMLC (Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference) competition for the Cougars with a Friday Night matchup with the Aggies of Utah State in Provo.  The Cougars will then take to the road for a fourth and final time during the regular season as they travel to Boulder, CO on April 12 to play the University of Colorado in a rematch of the 2017 RMLC Championship game.  BYU will then head north to Fort Collins, CO on April 14 to play the Rams of Colorado State University.

There will be little rest for the Cougars as they head home for their final week of regular season play.  Though the Cougars will be home in Utah, they won’t be in Provo for their midweek game on April 19.  The Cougars will face the nation’s latest addition to NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse, the University of Utah in a highly anticipated rivalry game.   The Cougars will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday evening April 21 versus cross town rival, Utah Valley University.  This final game of the season will also recognize 4 seniors that are competing in their final season for Cougars of BYU.

The Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference playoffs are scheduled for April 27 and 28 in Utah and the MCLA National Tournament will be held for the first time in Salt Lake City, UT at the new Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Conference May 7 – May 12.

BYU kicks off scrimmage play on January 27 against NCAA Division II opponent Westminster College.

Head Coach Matt Schneck is looking forward to the 2018 season and the Cougar’s aggressive schedule.  “The team is excited for the 2018 season and so is the coaching staff”, said Schneck.  “We will be challenging ourselves early and often in an effort to learn, grow and stretch ourselves in needed ways that will prepare us.  Success in the postseason is always our objective and I am hoping that our aggressive schedule will be one elements that will help us accomplish our goals.”
