Juan Diego Midfielder Chantz Hower notched 4 goals for the Soaring Eagle as they took down the Skyline Eagles on Friday night at Juan Diego High School by the score of 9-6.
“Chantz Hower had a bunch of our goals and he carried us on his back tonight,” said Juan Diego head Coach John Holmes.
Skyline attackman Lane Kadish danced back and forth behind the goal, lost his defender and scored to give the Eagles the lead at the 5:46 mark. Hower tied the game at 5:08 when he dodged through several players and found the back of the net. The aggressive Juan Diego defense drew a penalty late in the first quarter which led to a Bert Merrill goal for Skyline.
Juan Diego tied the game at the 9:36 mark when attackman Austin Roberts caught a cross field pass from Tristan Courtney, stepped down and found the top shelf of the goal. Juan Diego then went a three goal run with goals by Zach Madsen, Hower and Roberts. Skyline found net before halftime when defender Myer Mooney scooped up a loose ball in the defense end, stormed the length of the field and found Harrison Martin on the crease who quick-sticked it in.

Kadish brought the Eagles within one after the break when Ezra Schofield caused a turnover, took it the distance and found Merrill who found Kadish for the great transition goal. Juan Diego answered four minutes later on a goal by Madsen. Kadish again led the charge for Skyline on a nearly identical play as his previous goal. This time Nate Wade found a loose ball and led the transition, finding Martin who found Kadish. Juan Diego defender Ryan Baker would extend the lead a minute later when he scooped up a loose ball in the defensive end, dodged through what felt like seven defenders, drew a penalty and bounced it in for the goal, his third in three games. Hower added his third of the night at the 2:05 mark to make the score 8-5 heading into the final quarter.
Kadish scored at the 10:56 mark which gave Skyline the momentum. After several good opportunities by both teams, time was winding down and Hower scored the last goal of the game at the 3:53 mark when he sent a laser of a shot into the top left corner on a man-up play, closing out the game, giving the Soaring Eagle a 9-6 win.
“Once we settled down on offense and moved the ball like we knew we can, things started going our way. Their goalie had a bunch of saves and we didn’t get frustrated.”
Juan Diego continued with their goalie switching with Sean Edwards getting 5 saves in the first half and Brendan Roberts notching 2 in the second half. Skyline goalie Ian Burbidge had 13 saves. Skyline won 11 of 18 face-offs.
Juan Diego (3-0) will face Judge on March 16 in the annual St. Patrick’s day rivalry game. Skyline (4-1) will head to Jordan on March 17.
