College Roundup: Holy War Renewed; Griffins Home-Opener

There was little movement in the polls as BYU sits tied at No. 3 while Utah comes in tied at No. 13 in the WCLA Division I poll. Utah State remains the No. 1 team in the WCLA Division II poll.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Westminster takes to the road for a two game swing as it takes on No. 21 Colorado Mesa Friday at 7:00pm MT in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Griffins then face No. 16 Grand Valley State at Noon MT on Sunday in Grand Junction.

BYU heads to Salt Lake City to take on Utah on Saturday at 5:00pm at the McCarthey Track & Field Complex in this year’s women’s lacrosse edition of the Holy War.

UVU takes on Northern Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, and Denver this weekend at the Colorado School of Mines campus.

Men’s College Roundup

Utah ended up being the only team in action as the games in Moab that Utah State had scheduled were postponed due to snow. The Utes fell to No. 8 Denver, 15-6, but rebounded with a win over Air Force, 6-5.

The Utes are in action this weekend as they face Furman on Saturday at 10:00am MT. The game will be available on ESPN3. You can also read the preview here.

Westminster opens its home schedule on Tuesday at 3:00pm MT against Lynn University.

In the MCLA, Utah Valley hosts Simon Fraser today (Friday) at 7:00pm MT. No. 12 BYU will then host the Clan on Saturday at 7:00pm MT.

College Roundup: Locals Report

  • Shoutout to former Judge Memorial stand out and Cal Poly attackman Doug Gosselin who had the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Amour last week.
  • Bubba Fairman and the Maryland Terrapins took down Navy, 14-9, last Saturday. Fairman notched 1 goal and 2 assists. Maryland travels to South Bend for a Sunday showdown with Notre Dame.
  • The crew at Rutgers, Casey Rose, Zack Franckowiak, Garrett Bullett, and Garrett Michaeli fell to No. 1 Loyola last Saturday, 13-7. The Scarlet Knights travel to Fairfield on Saturday.
  • Beau Pederson and the Princeton Tigers fell to Virginia, 12-11 in OT. The Tigers host Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
  • Jack Mintz and Thomas Stockham and the Vermont Catamounts beat Quinnipiac on Saturday, 20-10. Mintz had an assist in the victory. The Catamounts are at Boston University this weekend.
  • Hannah Hyatt and the Boston College Eagles beat Harvard and Dartmouth and will take on USC this weekend.
