College Roundup: Women’s
Utah and BYU took to the road last weekend and faced Colorado State. BYU beat the Rams, 9-7. Tess Anderson, Heather Haight, and Kenedee Grieve each had two points for the Cougars. Utah bested the Rams as well, taking home a 12-10 win.
UVU headed to the Gem State and faced Wyoming and Boise State. The Wolverines came away with a 15-1 win over Wyoming and a 10-6 win over Boise State. Olivia McCrary led the team in both games, registering five goals and three assists in total.
On Saturday, Westminster fell to Rockhurst, 15-6. On Tuesday, Westminster was snuffed by No. 3 Lindenwood, 18-5.
The lone women’s game this weekend will see the UVU head down the street to face BYU. The game begins Saturday at 4:00pm.
College Roundup: Men’s
Westminster lost to Rollins on Sunday, 12-8. The Griffins are on the road and lost to Florida Southern by one goal, 14-13. They face No. 19 Tampa on Saturday.
In the MCLA, UVU picked up two wins with a 24-5 drubbing of UNLV and a 14-3 win over UCLA. BYU fell to Arizona State on Thursday, 13-8, but beat Grand Canyon, 10-6. Utah State picked up a 12-11 overtime win on Saturday against No. 7 Montana State.
Utah State goalie Berklee Baskin (Davis) was named the MCLA D-II Goalie of the Week following his 18 save performance over the Bobcats.
UVU will head to Boise this weekend to take on Dominican and Boise State. BYU will take on South Carolina in Santa Barbara, California on Thursday and meet Arizona in Las Vegas on Saturday.
College Roundup: Locals Report
In a game that featured Utahns on both sides of the field, Rutgers won the Meistrell Cup, defeating Princeton, 9-8. Beau Pederson (Park City/Princeton) had five shots with a caused turnover. For Rutgers, Casey Rose (Corner Canyon) had one goal while Garret Bullett (Corner Canyon) and Garret Michaeli (Corner Canyon), who also scored, received praise from head coach Brian Brecht, “Our defense did an excellent job. Garrett Bullett did a great job with his matchup on Michael Sowers, I was really impressed with him today. Garrett Michaeli in the middle of the field, running in transition and picking up some big ground balls.”
Checking in with a program that features several Utahns, NCAA D-III Southern Virginia is 3-4 on the season. Tennison Schmidt (Brighton) has 18 goals and seven assists on the season while Chandler Wescott (Bountiful) has 17 goals and seven assists. Payton Kimber (Spanish Fork) has 15 goals and seven assists. Nick Bair (Orem) leads the team in caused turnovers with 13.
