The Corner Canyon Chargers continued to roll in their inaugural season with a 10-6 win over the Bingham Miners on Tuesday night in Draper.
The game started with each team getting good possessions. The Chargers relentless ride helped them eventually get more possessions that led to the first goal at the 6:50 mark when Max Asay scored on a great feed from Chandler Stranc. Bingham tied the game just 16 seconds later when there was a procedure call on the faceoff, giving the ball to the Miners. Brigham Jewkes scooped up the ball on the restart and took it the distance, bouncing it into the goal on the near pipe. Bingham gained their first lead of the game 29 seconds later when Rickey Griffin went iso from the top left corner and bounced it into the back of the net. Corner Canyon would answer later in the first quarter on two separate man-up plays. The first came from Harry Waddoups who had a huge time and room rip to tie the game and the second coming at the 2:21 mark to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead. Bingham tied the game with 18 seconds left in the corner when Jordan Brough found Josh Croall while the Miners had a three-man advantage. Croall took advantage of the extra space and buried a time and room shot from the outside. The Chargers would answer right back again with a goal by Waddoups from the wing as time expired in the quarter.

Corner Canyon had a strong second quarter, scoring three goals and holding the Miners to zero. The first goal came at the 10:50 mark when Asay had a quick-stick goal on a pass from Zach Franckowaik. Asay scored again with 3:33 remaining, followed by a Franckowiak goal with 12 seconds left, giving Corner Canyon a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Bingham scored the first goal of the second half to bring the game within 3 goals, but Corner Canyon answered right back with another Franckowaik goal. Bingham would again cut the lead to 3 at the 9:41 mark in the fourth quarter when Croall scored a shorthanded goal by dodging to the crease from GLE and scoring while falling to the ground. The Miners had hopes for a comeback but a goal by Asay at the 8:30 mark put a small leak in the Miner rally. The hole would be patched at the 4:23 mark when Croall again found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity but the Chargers held strong, scoring a goal of their own when Stranc put the game out of reach at the 2:55 mark, sending the Miners home with a 10-6 loss.
“It wasn’t our cleanest game but we were able to come away with the win against a great Bingham team,” said Corner Canyon Head Coach Mark Davis.
The Corner Canyon faceoff squad went 15 of 19 with Franckowaik leading the way with a perfect 8 for 8.
“His [Franckowaik] faceoffs were phenomenal,” said Davis. “He had a bunch of assists and a step down lazer from the wing. He and Waddoups lead our team on the offense. They are very valuable to our team.”
Corner Canyon will take on Bountiful this Friday while Bingham head to Riverton to face the Silverwolves on Thursday.
