The Davis Darts beat the Lehi Pioneers by the score of 12-6 on Tuesday at Bus Park in Farmington.
Davis (1-0) came out firing on all cylinders but Lehi (0-1) held strong. Davis Midfielder Pepper Eames notched the Darts first goal. Lehi Midfielder Ryan Johnson answered right back, scooping up a ground ball in front of the crease and slotting it past Davis Goalie Berklee Baskin. Davis scored again to take a 2-1 lead after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was all Davis as they went on two, three goal runs with a Lehi goal mixed in the middle to take a 8-2 lead into halftime. Davis Attackmen Josh Gee found his stride, notching 3 of his 5 goals in the second quarter. Also finding the net was Long Stick Midfielder Spencer Gadd. The lone Lehi goal was scored by Attackmen Ian Hullinger.
As the weather became more harsh, so did the play on the field. The third quarter saw little action. Davis did manage to score 3 goals and held Lehi scoreless. The fourth quarter was littered with penalties by both teams including several man-up advantages for Lehi. Lehi had a four goal run spanning 5 minutes to come as close as 11-6 but Davis ultimately held of the Pioneers for the win.
“I’m glad we got a win,” said Davis Head Coach Trevor Yocom. “I’m disappointed with the sloppiness and the weather was a factor but I’m pretty happy overall with the win.”
Davis won 13 of 20 face-offs. Baskin had 8 saves while Lehi Goalie MacGregor North had 12 saves in the loss.
Davis hosts Logan on March 13 while plays at Woods Cross on Friday.
