Girls 2016 D-I Semifinal Sneak-Peek

The girls D-I semifinals will be played this Wednesday, May 18 at Alta High School at 6 and 7:30 pm. There has been no clear favorite this season and a surprise upset puts the Alta Hawks on their home field for their semifinal pairing:

Goals per Game: 15.5 Goals Allowed per Game: 4.8
Record vs D-I Teams: 2-2 Streak: Won 1
Head-to-Head: First Meeting
Both of these squads came into the season with a target on their backs–Park City is the defending state champ and Lone Peak turned heads when they won the preseason Best of the West tournament in Vegas. Given how these two have played all season, and looking at their offensive and defensive numbers, this outcome of this game is really anybody’s guess. The Knights have played good teams close this season but haven’t been able to get over the hump for a signature victory yet, and the Miners have the experience and talent to carry them to the next round–this one will come down to who executes better and wants it more on Wednesday.

Record vs D-I Teams: 3-3 Streak: Won 7
Head-to-Head: First Meeting
American Fork has been a consistently strong team all season long and their program expected to be here from day one; Alta is a bit of a surprise, perhaps even to themselves, as they were able to beat two quality opponents in Lehi and Brighton by just a single goal each. Make no mistake, though, the Hawks have found their mojo in the second half of the season and will give the Lady Cavemen all they can handle. American Fork is no stranger to the playoffs or to big games, and they’ve got the coaching and experience to move on to Saturday, but Alta has the magic right now, setting up a great contest for Wednesday.
