The Alta Hawks beat Olympus Titans on Tuesday by the score of 18-5.
Alta had something to prove coming off of their first loss since 2008 in a weekend “Gathering of the Tribes” tournament, where they lost in a tie-breaker given to Bingham who had scored the first goal of the match. Â And prove they did! Â Fans may of thought this might have been a more even game, but some midseason conflicts and injury caused the absence of five Titan starters.
The first half started out a little sloppy on both ends. Granite High Stadium is a tough field to play on when it comes to ground balls. Â Each team had their attempts with several long possessions where Alta capitalized and Olympus did not. Â Kenzie Sieverts of Alta scored an early goal to lead the Hawks to a first half advantage of 6-2.
The second half started out right as the first left off with back and forth drives on both ends. Â Alta’s transition and midfield passing was very impressive as they worked their way into the scoring area time after time. Â Olympus fought back to little avail, with unlucky and errant shots on their end. Hitting the post, or shooting wide. Â Goalie Kylie Pace of Alta saved five shots. Â Ending the second half with a final score of 18-5.
“Tonight ended up being a good game for us.” said Alta Head Coach Megan Gorringe. “We started slow but I think we figured some things out in the second half. From here we’ll just keep working hard and trying to get better in every day, regardless of if we’re practicing or playing a game.”
Alta was led by Sieverts with 5 goals. With Regina Farley, Shayna Hunt, Hannah Choi, Malia Stephens, Danielle Takemori, and Angie Olson also getting on the board.
Sophie Janes, Lilly Sybrant, and Claire Lu each scored for Olympus.
Alta will take on Judge on Wednesday in Sandy.
