Girls Class B: Olympus, Roy, Juan Diego, Viewmont Advance

The 2016 Girls Class B semifinals are set with Olympus taking on Roy and Juan Diego facing Viewmont after the quarterfinal games today.
At Olympus, the top-seeded Titans used their home-field advantage to get a 12-11 win over the pesky No. 8 Wildcats of Woods Cross. It was a back and forth affair with neither team wanting to lose without a fight. Olympus held a one goal advantage with 2:44 remaining in the game. Woods Cross would battle back and get a goal of their own at the 1:24 mark when Gabbi Harris found the back of the net to tie the game. The Titans were able to gain control and score with 9 seconds left, securing the win. Tatum Meier scored the last two goals for Olympus.
The Titans will face No. 4 Roy on Tuesday in the semifinals. The Royals easily handled Skyline, 11-2. Megan Lloyd led the Royals with 3 goals. Bree Bodle, Marcy Daines and Kelsie Hughes each had 2 goals for Roy.
At Juan Diego, the No. 2 Soaring Eagle faced No. 7 Davis in the first game of a double-header. Juan Diego jumped out to a two goal lead and looked as though they would cruise to victory. However, the Darts had different plans, scoring three goals of their own to take a 3-2 lead. Juan Diego answered with their own three goal run but Davis answered right back with a great goal by Hannah Johnson who caught a long pass from goalie McKenna Burwell. Johnson ran behind the entire Soaring Eagle defense and had a one-on-one opportunity which she converted to make the score 5-4 for Juan Diego. The Soaring Eagle would score three more goals before halftime including one as time expired to make the score 8-4.
Davis came out of the break and scored two quick goals. The teams traded goals the rest of the way leading to a 12-10 victory for Juan Diego. Blair Saunders was the player of the game, scoring 6 goals for the Soaring Eagle.
Juan Diego will take on No. 3 Viewmont who beat No. 11 Pleasant Grove in the second game of the double-header. It was literally a back and forth game with neither team taking more than a two goal lead at any one point. The teams entered the break with a tie ball game at 5. After the half, Viewmont took the lead early on a goal by Emmaline Frampton. Abbey Kerr answered for Pleasant Grove nine minutes later to tie the game. Rachel Smith gave the Darts a one-goal advantage at the 9:00 mark but was answered by Kerr on a free-position opportunity. Kerr converted another free-position shot three minutes later to give Pleasant Grove the lead. Just as the game seemed to be in favor of the Blue Vikings, the Maroon Vikings scored at the 27 second mark to tie the game when Frampton scored on a free-position shot. With 9 seconds left, Frampton again scored a free-position shot which was good enough for Viewmont to escape with the win.
The semifinals will take place on Tuesday, May 17 at Alta High School.
