Griffins Open Year on Saturday at Utah State

Westminster Griffins LacrosseSALT LAKE CITY – The No. 24 Westminster College men’s lacrosse team will begin the 2014 campaign on Saturday when they travel to Logan, Utah for a game with Utah State. The action begins at 4 p.m. MST and will take place at the USU Stan Laub Indoor Facility.

GRIFFIN NOTES
Westminster moves to Division I of the MCLA in 2014 after spending the first seven years of the program in Division II. The Griffins are coming off a 2013 campaign that saw them go 17-6 and advance to the championship game of the MCLA Division II National Championships. They won a fifth RMLC Tournament title in 2013 and went 25-2 all-time as a D2 member of the conference.
Westminster will return 24 players from that 2013 squad including four of the top five point scorers and all three goalies. They bring in 11 newcomers to replace the 11 players that they lost from last year’s team. The Griffins finished last season averaging 15.04 goals per game while holding the opposition to 6.16 goals per contest.
