Two teams from the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club of Utah traveled to Alameda, California last weekend for the 4 Ball Pro Box Tournament.
“The two HEADstrong LC teams (High School, U15) are the first youth teams to travel to play box lacrosse from Utah,” said HEADstrong Coach Dave Brattin. “Both Morgan Dunn (HS/Spanish Fork) and Eric Flowers (U15/Copper Hills Juniors) played outstanding in their first outings as box goalies.”
The players were welcomed to the tournament with a 2 hour clinic by Shaydon Santos. Santos played in the NLL for 12 years and is the former captain of the San Jose Stealth. Santos is the director of the Box Lacrosse Academy and head coach of the Cali Lax All Stars who hosted the tournament.
The HEADstrong high school team was comprised of Kasey Angus (Herriman), Parker Carson (Juan Diego), Alex Dobson (American Fork), Morgan Dunn (Spanish Fork), Cameron Loveridge (Herriman), Jake Merrill (Spanish Fork), Chase Peterson (West Jordan), Dawson Reynolds (Herriman), Cayden Thompson (Herriman), Ryan Townson (Waterford) and Kiesh Easterwood (Highland). The team went 3-2 overall, losing in the Championship game to Granite Bay Grizzlies.
The U-15 team played a 4 game series with the Oakland Catfish going 0-4.
“The U-15 team showed great improvement from game one to game four,” said Brattin. “Game 4 was played regulation 5 v 5 box and the game was tied 1-1 at halftime. The Catfish scored 4 in the second half to win 5-1.”
HEADstrong expects to return to the Bay Area Super Series in May.
