The Herriman Mustangs beat the Timpanogos Timberwolves on Wednesday in a key Girls D-II South Conference game. The Mustangs used a strong first half to dominate the game, winning 10-3.
Herriman was able to get into their groove early in the game, scoring their first goal at the 23:13 mark when Allie Lambert found the back of the net. Ten minutes of play passed with both teams getting good opportunities but lacked the final pass or shots just barely missing the cage. Both goalies had great saves to keep their teams in the game. With 13:18 left in the first half, Maddie Kondris was able to convert a free position attempt to go up 2-0. The Mustangs used that momentum to play solid defense, not allowing the Timberwolves any space to operate and continually pushing out, causing several turnovers. Lacie Bozeman scored next at the 10:00 mark. Hailey Kenney followed up with a textbook fast break play and another goal 3 minutes later to give Herriman a cozy 5-0 lead with 5 minutes left in the half. Hailey Reading scored her eighth goal of the season followed by another goal by Kondris. Kenney capped off the first half scoring with 1:24 left to give Herriman a 8-0 lead at halftime.

Timpanogos was the first to score in the second half when Madeline Buhman scored off a great individual effort, giving the Timberwolves a small spark of hope for a comeback. Both teams continued to fight hard for loose balls and took good looks at the cage but were unable to score until Bozeman found the back of the net on a fast break midway through the second half. Timpanogos found space at the 10:58 mark, making the score 9-2 for Herriman. Kenney scored again for Herriman, her fourth of the game to give the Mustangs a 10-2 lead. Timpanogos capitalized on a free position goal at 6:27 in what would be the last goal of the game, giving Herriman the 10-3 victory.
“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs this season and we had a long talk yesterday about playing at a higher level,” said Herriman Head Coach Maureen Richard. “I think it worked. We came out today and our passing was on and we played at that level.”
Herriman was led by Hailey Kenney who had 4 goals. Goalie Rebecca Diaz Rojo had 7 saves in the win for the Mustangs.
“Bridgett Paez had a great game for us today,” said Richard. “She had a lot of beautiful passes in the midfield and then going into the attacking end. Hailey Kenney had some great shots today as well. Defensively our goalie had a great game today. She was solid and aggressive. Kyndra Caldwell had a fantastic game today too. Overall, I could name every single girl because they all played well today.”
Herriman will finish their season against American Fork on Monday. Timpanogos will play Waterford on Monday and Lehi on Thursday.
