The Herriman Mustangs beat the Lehi Pioneers on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 16-6 that was a one-sided affair from the beginning.
The scoring started early for Herriman when Ben Richard found the back of the net at the 10:52 mark. The Mustangs then went on a five goal run with goals by Braedon Lance, Matthew Dykes, two goals by Taylor Brundage and Chantz Roberts. Lehi scored their first goal of the game with 11 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Ian Hullinger found the back of the net.

Lance scored again for Herriman to give them a comfortable 7-1 lead early in the second quarter but Lehi fought back, scoring three straight goals to make the score 7-4. Just as the game was beginning to take a turn and looked to be a good match-up, Herriman scored two more goals while allowing a man-up goal, taking a 9-5 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs were on cruise control in the second half, outscoring Lehi 7-1. The lone Lehi goal came when defender Nathan Smith heaved the ball down the field like a Hail Mary. Hullinger outran the defense and caught the pass, took a few steps and slotted it home for the great goal.
“I liked the way we came out with high intensity in the first quarter,” said Herriman Head Coach Mark Roothoff. “We’ve got some new faces who haven’t played with us before but they’re coming together and I’m liking what we’ve seen.”
Senior Attackman Matthew Dykes led the Mustangs with 2 goals and 5 assists.
“We had some great cuts that allowed me to get guys the ball,” said Dykes. “We played our game and we came out hard and it was a great win for us.”
Herriman will look to continue their winning ways when they face Olympus on Thursday. Lehi will head to East on March 19.
