Herriman Wins Mustang Showdown Over Mountain Crest

Mountain Crest Taylon NiederhauserThe Mustangs of Herriman and Mountain Crest squared off on Wednesday afternoon in Herriman in a key cross-conference match-up.
Mountain Crest scored first when attackmen Troy Netzley found the back of the net. Herriman answered two minutes later on a goal by attackmen Chantz Roberts. Another two minutes past and Herriman capitalized on a failed clear by Mountain Crest which found attackmen Matthew Dykes assisting attackmen Dillon Meyer for the goal. Mountain Crest was able to tie the game with three minutes left in the first quarter when midfielder Taylon Niederhauser scored.
The second quarter was the difference in the game with Herriman scoring 4 goals and not allowing any. A quick stick man-up goal was scored by Dykes followed by a goal by midfielder Braxton Thompson. Dykes scored on the ensuing face-off on a great feed by Roberts. Meyer finished the half with a fast-break goal on an assist by Dykes to make the score 6-2 at halftime.
The third quarter saw Herriman score a pair of goals before Mountain Crest found the net again making the score 8-3 midway through the quarter. Roberts and Thompson scored again for Herriman who took a 10-3 lead before Niederhauser scored again for Mountain Crest. Herriman went on a 6-1 run to close out the game and the victory. During the run, Herriman took advantage of two man-up opportunities, isolation goals from the midfield and a series of shots that hit pipe twice before Roberts fought hard for the rebound and slotted it home for the goal.

“We came out flat in that first quarter,” said Herriman Head Coach Mark Roothoff. “In the second half we came out and played our game and it showed.”
Herriman was led by Roberts who had 5 goals and 1 assist. Midfielder Ben Richard had 1 goal and 5 assists while Meyer had 4 goals. Herriman Goalie Wyatt Katsos had 14 saves. Mountain Crest was led by Niederhauser who had 3 goals and an assist. Mountain Crest Goalie Bryce Hatfield had 9 saves. The Mountain Crest face-off crew won 16 of 24 face-offs.
Herriman will play Sky View on Friday. Mountain Crest will play Idaho Falls on Saturday.
