The Stories That Matter Most To The Utah Lacrosse Community

High School Team At A Glance: Syracuse Titans

We’re doubling up our efforts with our “At A Glance” series, so you get twice the glances at teams this week (think of it like a double-overtime game: free lacrosse!). Our second team for today is the Syracuse Titans.
Head Coach: Curt Warnick (New)
2015 record: 12-6
2015 playoffs: Class B Quarterfinals (Lost to Fremont)
Who on your team do you expect to be a stand out player this coming season?
We expect big things from all of our players, but I believe Stewy Tulane may be one of the best around. I believe that when it is all said and done, those that play against him will appreciate his immense talent.
Who is returning to the team that fans may not know but should?
We have a number of boys returning with some experience. The offense returns Stewy Tulane and Jackson Anderson who were leaders in scoring last year. They will be leaned on to do the same this year. Zach Baird, Jordan Schultz and Jonah Warnick lead a midfield who have worked with each other for a few years. Matt Yarbrough (Close Defense) and Jarom Tingey (Goalie) return and will be looked at to run our defense.

Syracuse LogoWho are your team captains?
We have 4 leaders that we will look to for on field guidance.
Jonah Warnick and Stewy Tulane were Captains from last year and will be looked to as leaders again. Jonah understands the game from a high level and is good at helping others see the game as it is happening. Stew is a natural leader and other players listen as he speaks. We will also count on Zach Baird who is a lacrosse junky. Our last line of defense and probably our most vocal leader will be Matt Yarbrough. We will have a captains vote later in spring, but these are some of the boys that will definitely lead us.
What is your strongest position on the field?
We have some balance, but with some help from Juniors Connor Haacke, and Austin Becraft, we could be formidable on offense. Look for our attacks to contribute to our success.
What is the difference between this years team and last years team?
The difference between this year and last is we return more players, but may have less depth. I think you will find this lacrosse team to be cohesive.
What is the biggest challenge you will face in conference play this year?
The biggest challenge in conference play this year is that all programs are continually improving. There is no way to look past a team at any point.
What single thing are you looking forward to the most this season?
I am excited to watch some of the younger boys contribute. Isaac Smith, Ethan Franks, Mitch Hernandez, Yo Finlinson, and Adam Winfrey (Frosh) will be counted upon to fill some big shoes.
I am also very excited to see how our keeper Jarom Tingey takes his next step to becoming great. He had a fine season as a Sophomore starter, it will be good to see how he does with a year under his belt.
At the end of the season, which team will be holding the Championship trophy?
It is our goal and purpose for playing.
What else should we know about your team?
Curt Warnick is taking over as the new head coach, while Jay Meyer continues to help grow his legacy program by assisting.
