The Stories That Matter Most To The Utah Lacrosse Community

Jace Babka Commits to Grand Canyon

Jace Babka, a senior midfielder at Jordan High School, has committed to play lacrosse at MCLA D-I Grand Canyon University.
“Grand Canyon really drew me in with their overall love and commitment to athletics,” said Babka. “The campus is just expanding with athletic facilities and other things to ensure athletes have the best opportunity to be at their best. Their program is known for being at the top and holding a certain standard that really drew me in.”
2014-Bingham-Jordan-10Babka spent his off-seasons on the recruiting circuit with the Utah Blackhawks and the West Coast Starz.
“I think the biggest challenge in recruiting is thinking that college coaches don’t want to talk to you or are kind of intimidating, they really do want to talk and try to see if their college is best for you so my advice would probably be to put yourself out there,” said Babka.
Babka comes from a lacrosse family with several brothers donning the Maroon and White for the Beetdiggers.
“I’d like to thank my parents and family for getting me along my whole career in lacrosse and always supporting me no matter what I do,” said Babka. “Of course the Blackhawks and West Coast Starz organizations for allowing me to play along side the best players and my best friends. They’re my brothers and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I would definitely be to get on a travel team and really try to compete with the best possible players.”
The Beetdiggers will look to get into the Class A playoffs this season in hopes for a State Championship.
“We are off to the best start I’ve been apart of and can’t wait to start the season,” said Babka. “A championship is always in my mind but we just have to see where the season takes us. We are really solid this year and I’m really excited to play with my stud of a brother at goalie, he’s the best I’ve played with and its always special suiting up with him.”
Another Utahn, Tate Linford (Riverton), is currently the captain of the Lopes.
“Yeah it was really great getting to see Tate and watch him do what he does on the field,” said Babka. “He sat with me after the game and gave me good advice and really sold me on what I was already pretty much sold on so I can’t thank him enough.”
The Lopes are currently ranked No. 5 in the MCLA Polls and are 1-0. Their next game will be against BYU on March 6.
