The Stories That Matter Most To The Utah Lacrosse Community

Juan Diego Defenseman Carter Mannix Commits to Marquette

Carter MannixCarter Mannix, a mainstay in the defense of back-to-back Juan Diego championships, has verbally committed to play college lacrosse at Marquette, an NCAA D-I program.
“I plan on majoring in Civil Engineering and Marquette has a great program,” said Mannix. “The coaching staff is excellent. Head Coach Joe Amplo is a really honest, straightforward guy, and he also coaches the defense. Coach Brundage and Coach Orsen both made me feel right at home on campus. I also loved Milwaukee.  Everyone I met in the city was friendly and welcoming.”
Mannix has spent his summers and many weekends playing mainly with the Utah Starz and West Coast Starz, featuring in many of the Adrenaline events for the past few years. Mannix was also considering Siena, Rutgers, BU, Quinnipiac, Delaware, Washington & Lee, RIT, ASU, Florida, and Vassar.
Mannix offers his advice for players looking to play at the next level: “You have to really be committed with your grades, your body, and your mind.  Try to figure out what you want to major in and then find the schools that match your lacrosse level and academic goals.  Also, you need to have someone you can trust who believes in you to help you communicate with the college coaches. Never give up on a school if it’s where you really want to go.  Marquette was my top choice and there were times when I thought that might not be possible. But I went to their prospect camp and I was able to show the coaches what I can do. If you know where you want to go to school, go to their prospect camp!”
Like every other recruit, Mannix has had many key people in place to help him along his path.
“I need to thank a bunch of people for helping me get to where I am today:  First of all, I want to thank every player who ever played with me on Juan Diego, West Coast Starz, Utah Starz, Rocky Mountain Starz, & DH Lax.  It’s a team game and without all of you I could never have done this. Also big thanks (in alpha order) to Joe Amplo, Dan Barlow, Shamel Bratton, Jeff Cassar, Maxx Davis, Chuck Dotson, Steve Dunn, Todd Faiella, Bruce & Colleen Grogg, Mike Gronseth, Kyle Harrison, Ira & Scott Hochstadt, John Holmes, Patrick & Shawn Lambert, Max & Xander Ritz, Brad & Jeff Tack, Ryan Walton, & Jono Zissi. Special thanks to Pete Benda for giving me the inspiration to work through the hard times and to Matt Jungemann for showing me the way on the field. Lastly, and most importantly, to my parents, Carrie & Dan Mannix, you were always there for me emotionally and supporting me on & off the field.”
Marquette played to a 5-8 record as an independent in 2013 and will join the Big East in 2014.
