Judge Jumps To Early Lead, Holds Off Beetdiggers

Judge - Jordan Boys LacrosseThe Judge Bulldogs beat the Jordan Beetdiggers on Tuesday night by the score of 14-9 at Jordan High School. The Bulldogs scored first at the 10:37 mark when Judge Midfielder Gabe Rechsteiner found the back of the net. The Bulldogs scored two minutes later with a great shot by attackmen Grant Pierce. Rechsteiner scored on the ensuing face-off giving Judge a 3-0 lead with 9 minutes left in the quarter. Two more Judge goals followed by a goal by Jordan Midfielder Jace Babka made the score 5-1 after the first quarter.
Judge continued to score at will with more goals by Pierce and Rechsteiner. Jordan Attackmen Shaylor Sylvester brought the game to 7-2 with 4 minutes left in the first half. Judge would score again followed by another Jordan goal to make the score 8-3 at halftime.
The second half was a battle. Both teams wanted the win. Whenever Judge would get momentum, Jordan would steal it right back. Nine goals were scored in the third quarter which saw Judge take a 13-7 lead.
The fourth quarter begin with a Judge goal by Sean Sloan. Jordan scored next to make the score 14-8. The Beetdigger faithful began to believe a comeback was in the cards. Jordan scored again at the 5:34 mark making the score 14-9. A goal a minute for the win is a tall task which proved to be too much of a barrier as the Beetdiggers were unable to score again.
“We came out well, we came out with a lot of energy,” said Judge Head Coach Dave Allen. “We didn’t sustain that for the whole game and allowed them to get back in it.”
Jordan Goalie Jared Rigby, while small in stature, stood tall in the cage, registering 10 saves including some fantastic stick saves. Rechsteiner finished with 5 goals and a handful of assists.
“I gave the game balls to Gabe [Rechsteiner] and Sean Sloan,” said Allen. “They’re both middies who work hard, get ground balls, do well on face-offs, score goals and get assists.”
Judge will take on Juan Diego on Sunday in the annual St. Patrick’s Day game. Jordan will play in the Gathering of the Tribes tournament this weekend before taking on Park City on March 21.
