Leopards Hold Off Silverwolves in Close Contest

East LogoIt was a breezy, beautiful morning in Riverton, perfect lacrosse weather. In what proved to be a close match throughout, the Leopards of East defeated the Riverton Silverwolves. Both teams battled until the last moments of the game, but it was East who came out triumphant.
From the opening whistle in the first quarter, the two teams were fairly evenly matched. Zac Tueller opened the scoring early, giving the Silverwolves a lead. Tueller scored unassisted, running around from behind the cage. East attackman Lucas Idstrom tied up the game before the quarter was over.
The second quarter showed less action than the first. Defender Joey Anderson scored a point for the Leopards during a man-up situation. This ended up as the final goal of the first half.
The match up truly intensified in the third quarter. Midfielder Jacob Parkin put the Leopards up by two early in the quarter. Riverton answered back when Tueller passed low to Alexander Matheson, scoring the underhand goal. The quarter continued with the scoring back and forth. In the final minutes of the third East increased their shooting, however, Riverton had stepped up defense and held off any further scores.
The Silverwolves’ intensity continued and spread to the offensive end of the field. Riverton attack dominated possession to start out the fourth, eventually scoring two goals. They brought the score to a tie and did not let up. East, however, was not ready to let this game slip from their control. The Leopards answered back with two goals of their own, putting them back ahead by two.
With just minutes left, Riverton brought the game back within one goal. As the clock was winding down, both teams did their best just to keep control of the ball. In one final possession, the Silverwolves cleared the ball down to Tueller. There was enough time left on the clock for one final shot. East put pressure on the ball and forced Tueller to the ground just as the clock expired. East had won the game by the score of 7 to 6.
Riverton will prepare to host Woods Cross (0-6) on April 14th. East’s next game will be on April 21st against Jordan (3-4).
