Maddie Ingman caught fire and scored seven goals to lead the Westminster women’s lacrosse (1-6, 1-1 RMAC) team to its first season and conference win over Oklahoma Baptist (2-5, 0-2 RMAC).
The Griffins and Bisons got off to a frantic start with seven goals, three ties and two lead changes in the opening 10 minutes. Phebe Walker scored to give Westminster the lead just 14 seconds in. The visitors tied it up a couple minutes later.
Audree Erekson scored to give the lead back to the Griffins only to see it taken away with two in a row by the visitors. Eden Freiberg scored three in a row regaining the lead and spurring the Griffins on to an eight-point first half lead, 13-5.
The Griffins scored four more goals in the second half to finish the game, 18-4.
Maddie Ingman took nine shots, eight on goal, and scored seven more than doubling her total on the season. Frieberg recorded her first career hat-trick and added an assist to her tally.
Allie Lambert anchored the Griffin defense with six ground balls, caused three turnovers and won four draw controls. Ingman picked up six ground balls and won three draw controls and Lauren Shoughro grabbed five ground balls won two draw controls and caused two turnovers.
Westminster returns to action with a pair of road games next week at Fort Lewis, 3/29, and Adams State, 3/31.
