Matthew Michaeli, an Alta High School alumni, is currently a sophomore midfielder at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. Last year, Pfeiffer when 13-4 with Michaeli getting in every game notching 8 goals and 5 assists. Their season ended on a sour note, losing to Limestone in the Conference Carolinas Championship game.
During the off-season, Michaeli worked on many aspects of his game, including shooting and dodging. But an area he focused on most was his confidence on the field.
“I feel a majority of players can relate to this, but freshman year I kind of lost a little bit of confidence,” he said. “You were the big dog in a high school and you come to college and everyone is just as good and compete with you. For me I needed to get my confidence back to be the player I wanted to be,” Michaeli said.

So far, Pfeiffer is 5-1, with their one loss coming from Mercyhurst. Michaeli already on track to top what he did last year, with 6 goals and 1 assist. With the season off to a great start, Michaeli already has his eyes set on bringing revenge to Limestone on April 19th.
“The main game I’m looking towards is limestone. They made us look stupid in the championship. No need to sugar coat it we should have played a better game at the time and we didn’t,” he said.
Pfeiffer looks to continue making this season better than last season, with a great opportunity to do so. Their next 7 games are all home games. They will then finish their season with an away game against Limestone. They are looking to make a statement to the league, and specifically to Limestone.
“This year will show what we have been doing on the off season, and I plan to put up one hell of a fight,” he said.
