The MCLA Division II semifinals opened Thursday morning with St. Thomas taking on Grand Valley State, and the North Dakota State University Bison battling the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
The Tommies took a 6-3 lead heading into halftime, and then dominated the third quarter with a 5-1 offensive run. St. Thomas never looked back, winning 14-5.
The top-seeded Tommies got a solid offensive performance from senior midfielder Sam Turner, who recorded a hat-trick in addition to pitching in one assist. Sam Bouman had a big day in cage for St. Thomas, recording 15 saves and turning away shots at critical moments.
North Dakota State took on Minnesota-Duluth, and the Bison’s ten-man ride caused problems early for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs cleared a paltry 54-percent of their attempts.
NDSU had a 7-6 lead at halftime and ended up sealing the victory with an 11-8 win.
St. Thomas will face North Dakota State University in the MCLA finals on Saturday.
