MCLA Preview: Griffins, Aggies Head to Colorado, BYU Travels to Vegas

BYU, Utah State, Westminster LacrosseThis weekend will be another great weekend of lacrosse for the MCLA teams as they travel to Colorado and Las Vegas to face some great competition. The third-ranked Cougars will face UNLV, No. 9 Chapman and LMU in Las Vegas on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Utah State is heading to Colorado to take on RMLC foes No. 1 Colorado State and No. 5 Colorado. Westminster will be heading into a seven day road trip, beginning at No. 5 Colorado and then No. 1 Colorado State. The Griffins will also catch the Air Force v. Lehigh NCAA D-I game on Sunday.
Thursday, February 21
No. 3 BYU Cougars @ UNLV – 7pm PST
The Cougars and Rebels have only met once, a 12-8 win for BYU in 2012. Recap
Friday, February 22
No. 3 BYU Cougars v. No. 9 Chapman @ UNLV – 7pm PST
The Cougars and Panthers have a great rivalry, having played 7 times in the past 5 seasons. BYU owns a 4-3 record in the series including two wins last year, a 12-11 overtime win during the season and a 15-12 win in the quarterfinals of the MCLA National Tournament.
Utah State Aggies @ No. 1 Colorado State – 7pm MT
Colorado State owns the series with a 3-0 record against the Aggies. In the previous three meetings, Utah State hasn’t scored more than 5 goals, but newcomer Blade Garlow and the rest of the Aggie attack will look to change that stat.
No. 3 Westminster (D-II) @ No. 5 Colorado (D-I) – 7pm MT
This will be the first meeting between the two schools but certainly not the last with Westminster moving to MCLA D-I next season, the Colorado v. Westminster game will be a key RMLC match-up in future years.
Saturday, February 23
No. 3 BYU v. LMU @ UNLV – 5pm PST
This will be the second meeting between BYU and LMU. BYU won the game in 2011 by the score of 16-10. LMU is 0-3 this season.
Utah State @ No. 5 Colorado – 1pm MT
The Aggies and Buffs have played three times with Colorado taking all three games. The closest game was a 14-9 victory for Colorado in 2009.
No. 3 Westminster (D-II) @ No. 1 Colorado State (D-I) – 4pm MT
Like Colorado, the Griffins have never faced Colorado State, but in coming years it will be an RMLC game. With this game, the Griffins are doing something rare in the MCLA, playing the Division I & Division II Champions within a weeks time.
