SALT LAKE CITY — The Westminster men’s lacrosse team heads south on I-15 to face Utah Valley in the final regular season game of the season on Saturday.  Westminster and Utah Valley are both 2-0 in the RMLC and the winner of Saturday’s game claims the West Division championship.
Westminster is 9-7 on the year and is coming off a 21-5 win over Western State last Saturday.  That win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Griffins.  They are 4-2 in road games this season and 6-6 in all games away from Dumke Field.
Josh Condas leads the team with 45 points behind 28 goals and 17 assists.  Jake Arthur has scored a team-best 31 goals and has totaled 33 points.  Jacob Wayman is third with 32 points while leading the team with 23 assists.  Dallas McLellan has posted 148 saves in the cage with a 58.3% save percentage.
About Utah Valley
Utah Valley enters the week at 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the RMLC.  They have won six straight games and are coming off an 11-3 win over Fort Lewis on April 16.  Jordan Gerber leads the Wolverines with 34 points and 23 goals.  Zachary Zdumich has scored 21 goals and 30 points.  Wesley LeFevre has posted 95 saves with a 65.1%save percentage.
Inside the Series
Westminster and Utah Valley have split six all-time meetings.  Utah Valley has won the last two games, including a 9-7 win at last season’s MCLA National Championships.  The Griffins claimed a 9-8 overtime win in the last regular season meeting between the two squads.
Checking the Polls
Westminster is ranked No. 10 in this week’s Prodigy Division II Coaches’ Top 25 poll.  They earned 316 points in the poll to remain in the same position as last week.  They sit No. 10 in the Adidas/MCLA The Lax Mag Top 23 poll that was released on April 18.  The Lax Power computer rating has the Griffins 10th with a rating of 69.52.
RMLC Tournament
The 2011 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament will be held from May 5-7 in Grand Junction, Colorado.  Mesa State in the host of the event.  The Division II quarterfinals are scheduled for May 5 between the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds from each division.  Those two winners will advance to the semi-finals on May 6 against the two division winners.  The two semi-final winners will play for the MCLA automatic berth on May 7.
Looking Ahead
Westminster will head to Grand Junction, Colo. for the 2011 RMLC Tournament.  The quarterfinals will begin on May 5 with the semi-finals on May 6.  The RMLC championship game is slated for May 7.
