Miklain Huntsman of Skyline Checks in From Detroit

Miklain Huntsman
c/o Detroit Titans
Mikalin Huntsman, a Skyline High School graduate, is wrapping up her freshman year at the University of Detroit.  She is playing defense, but is a midfielder at heart.  Huntsman has been able to play in all 13 of her games, and started in 6 of them.  So far this season, she has notched up one goal, one assist and 12 turnovers.  The Detroit Titans have had a difficult season, going 2-11 so far.  But that doesn’t change how Huntsman feels about her team and school.
“My favorite part about the team is how close we all are,” she said. “Specifically us 6 freshmen on the team, we do everything together and we are always laughing and having a good time.”
On making the switch from midfield to defense, she said, “I never thought I would be playing solely defense, let alone starting. But my coaches have really helped me to develop those skills.”
The Titans will face Michigan today, Stetson on April 19 and Kennesaw State on April 26.

Utah Lacrosse News: What do you like about the campus?
Miklain Huntsman: The campus is pretty small so I get to walk to all of my classes and it doesn’t take me too long. I also really love the lacrosse field, of course.
ULN: What do you do in you spare time (aside from lacrosse)?
MH: Aside from lacrosse I spend a lot of time with the LDS community here. Anything from lessons with the missionaries to firesides, helping out ward members and going to the temple. Other than that, me and the other 5 freshmen here do lots of fun things. We go shopping, we go have dinner and hang out at some of the girls’ homes that live nearby, we go to the cider mill, and the list goes on.
ULN: What game are you looking forward to the most?
MH: I am looking forward to playing Michigan the most. They are one of our big rivals because our schools are so close.
Favorite singer – Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton
Favorite Band – Beastie Boys (mostly because my brothers like them haha)
Movie – Forever Strong
Quote –  “Our destiny is not determined by the number of times we stumble but by the number of times we stand up, dust ourselves off, and stride forward.” –Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Favorite NCAA Lacrosse team (aside from yours of course) – Stanford
Anyone you would like to give a shout out to?  I know it is typical to say “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for…” but that is the truth. Each member of my family helped me to get to where I am.  Each and every one of the 9 members of my family have been out to see my games. I have had someone at almost every single one of my games cheering me on.
