Park City Takes Down Alta

Park City Girls LacrosseThe Park City girls lacrosse team continued to show why their the No. 1 team in the polls this week with a quality 12-8 win over Alta on Thursday in Sandy.
Park City controlled the first draw and Caitlin Jarrett scored to put the Miners ahead early followed by a goal by Maddie Haynes. Alta and Park City traded goals before Alta’s Sarah Linford scored two straight to tie the game at 3. Back to back goals by Alex Miele gave the Miners the momentum and spark they needed to complete a 5-1 run to end the half with an 8-4 lead.
The second half began with a yellow card on Alta for a check to the head. Park City capitalized taking a 9-4 lead. Linford and Haysun Choi scored to make the score 10-6 for Park City. The Alta faithful, fans and players alike, could feel the momentum changing but Park City held strong. Haynes scored again for the Miners but Alta answered with two of their own to make the score 11-8. Alta continued to get chances but were unable to capitalize. Park City scored as time expired to take a 12-8 victory for their second win of the season.
“We’ve been really focusing on our team play,” said Park City Head Coach Amy Hafets. “We’re really encouraging the players to take risks on the field, knowing that their teammates have their back if needed. Today, I think we didn’t quite do that. I think there were times that we were sloppy. We came out flat and Alta wanted it but our girls upped their intensity and were able to get it done.”
Park City controlled 12 out of 21 draws and goalie Ashley Peabody had 5 saves. After 9 games in under a week, the Miners won’t play a game until next Thursday against Riverton. Alta will host Herriman on Monday.
