Real Deal MCLA Poll — April 6

Our “Real Deal MCLA Poll” is created by former BYU player and coach, Jordan Harris; you can find all his musings on MCLA lacrosse on Twitter by following @JHLacrosse. Jordan has a great story about “Ram Week” this week to go along with this week’s poll HERE
1. Chapman
Chapman Logo
What else is there to add? Firm lock on the spot. If you are voting anyone else as #1 you are simply wrong.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 7 (#5 BYU , #6 CU, #10 Oregon, #11 Stanford, #15 Oregon State, #21 Sonoma, #25 UVU)
Top 25 Losses: 0
Unranked Wins: 6
Unranked Losses: 0
2. Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech Logo
There is a good chance Georgia ends up ranked before the showdown this weekend. Rivalries are always unpredictable, but I’d be surprised to see the Yellowjackets upset here.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 3 (#8 Boston College, #14 Virginia Tech, #18 Liberty)
Top 25 Losses: 0
Unranked Wins: 7
Unranked Losses: 0
3. Cal Poly
Cal Poly Logo
No change. Standford vs Cal Poly will be the game to watch in the WCLL.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 3 (#12 ASU, #13 UCSB, #18 SSU)
Top 25 Losses: 1 (#4 GCU)
Unranked Wins: 7
Unranked Losses: 0
4. Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon Logo
Grand Canyon added another resounding win over Arizona State. It seems like they are peaking at right time. GCU/Arizona will be another fun one to watch. Right now they have a firm lock on #4. I expect to see them add some distance in the poll this week.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 5 (#5 BYU , #6 CU, #3 Cal Poly, #12 Arizona State, #23 Boise State)
Top 25 Losses: 3 (#8 Boston College, #9 CSU, #25 UVU)
Unranked Wins: 1
Unranked Losses: 0
5. Colorado State
Colorado State Logo
Not the most inspired effort against UVU, but they got the job done. Would have been a 2 goal game if not for the impressive coach’s assist from BYU Alum Tyler Monteath. (I know the refs shouldn’t have allowed it, but I still love it).
CSU vs BYU in Hughes Stadium this Saturday. It’s going to be a beaut.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 4 (#4 GCU, #13 UCSB, #21 Sonoma, #23 Boise State)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#7 Arizona, #10 Oregon)
Unranked Wins: 3
Unranked Losses: 0
6. Boston College
Boston College Logo
Boston College took care of business against Connecticut this week. MCLA voters are down on the Eags, but I think they are wrong. They are underanked based on their resume.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 4 (#4 GCU, #12 ASU, #18 Liberty, #19 Connecticut)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#2 Georgia Tech, #7 Arizona)
Unranked Wins: 2
Unranked Losses: 0
7. BYU

This weekend is make or break for the Cougs. Unlike last year where everyone played a top 10 team in the RMLC conference tournament, there is a big difference in playing the conference 3 seed and the conference 4 seed right now. BYU needs to sweep this weekend to be in the drivers seat for the 1 seed.
With BYU slowly falling down the ranks, they need a marquee win that will standout in the tournament selection committees mind. This weekend could add two of them.
UNH jumped into the rankings this week giving BYU their 5th top 25 win, but they only have 1 top 15.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 5 (#12 ASU, #19 SDSU, #23 Boise State, #22 UNLV, #25 UNH)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#1 Chapman, #4 GCU)
Unranked Wins: 6
Unranked Losses: 0
8. Colorado
Colorado Logo
I saw Colorado in person for the first time this week when they played UVU. I was impressed. They have a ton of team speed and a deep group of talent. Their top end might not be as good as CU teams in the past, but they have a lot of talent, and a lot of it is young. I was impressed with Freshman Max Wisner for the Buffs.
I try to objectively rank based on results. If this were a power ranking, I would have the Buffs much higher.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 4 (#7 Arizona, #10 Oregon, #19 SDSU, #23 Boise State)
Top 25 Losses: 3 (#1 Chapman, #4 GCU, #13 UCSB)
Unranked Wins: 3
Unranked Losses: 0
9. Arizona
Arizona Logo
GCU game this weekend is huge for the Laxcats. A chance to make a statement and jump back into the conversation as a true title contender.
I’d assumed they would have beat SDSU by more than they did, but they won, and that’s what matters.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 5(#8 Boston College, #9 CSU, #19 SDSU, #23 Boise State, #25 UVU)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#6 CU, #22 UNLV)
Unranked Wins: 0
Unranked Losses: 0
10. UCSB

We won’t learn much about UCSB this week, but next week they take on Chapman, which should be very telling.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 3 (#6 CU, #21 Sonoma, #22 UNLV)
Top 25 Losses: 3 (#3 Cal Poly, #9 CSU, #11 Stanford)
Unranked Wins: 3
Unranked Losses: 0
11. Oregon
Oregon Logo
Added a top 25 win against Boise State. I still think their only sure-fire way to California is a PNCLL championship, which seems easily within their grasp. Should they run the table they could be looking at a potential top 6 seed in the tournament. Not bad for having missed the tourney last year.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 2 (#9 CSU, #23 Boise State)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#1 Chapman, #5 CU)
Unranked Wins: 6
Unranked Losses: 0
12. Stanford

Stanford vs Cal Poly on Saturday
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 1 (#13 UCSB)
Top 25 Losses: 2 (#1 Chapman, #15 Oregon State)
Unranked Wins: 6
Unranked Losses: 0
13. Arizona State
Arizona State Logo
They are running out of chances to make a strong case for an at-large berth. They need to take care of business Saturday vs UNLV and at the VERY least split the Colorado trip. Even then, it’s thin ice. Tough to think of a tournament without the Sun Devils.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 2 (#15 Oregon State, #19 SDSU)
Top 25 Losses: 4 (#4 GCU, #5 BYU , #3 Cal Poly, #8 Boston College)
Unranked Wins: 1
Unranked Losses: 0
14. Oregon State
Oregon State Logo
Took care of business against Boise State. They certainly have to win the PNCLL tournament to head to California. PNCLL is a 1 bid conference this year.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 1 (#11 Stanford, #23 Boise State)
Top 25 Losses: 3 (#1 Chapman, #12 ASU, #21 Sonoma)
Unranked Wins: 4
Unranked Losses: 0
15. FSU
FSU Logo
I don’t really love any of the options for 15, but of the ones I don’t love, I don’t love FSU the least (I think that’s right?).
They have done a good job taking care of business against most teams, minus an early slip-up against South Carolina. The lone win vs Liberty isn’t enough to make it feel like they absolutely belong here.
The games against Boston College and Virginia Tech will give us a good gauge on if they belong. Keep your eyes peeled Friday night.
Breakdown
Top 25 Wins: 1(#18 Liberty)
Top 25 Losses: 0
Unranked Wins: 10
Unranked Losses: 1 (South Carolina)
With that, I’m done. Go Cougs! #RamWeek
